Hey Kiddies,

Getting towards the end of my project so it's time to focus on some paint. I'm wanting to give it a satin black look with some airbrushed flames. Just wondering how I would go about this with 2 pack paint. Can you get a matt or satin clear to go over the base and not ruin the look.
Secondly I guess is does anyone in Sydney have a compressor setup I can come use for a few hours or possibly even borrow for a weekend. I've got all the guns, airbrush, paint etc

I'll be happy to part with some beer tokens for the time.

Thanks.

as far as satin /matt finish goe's mate if you put clear on it .it will be glossy so that will ruin the look wouldnt it and from memory it goe's yellow

I'm pretty sure you can get a satin or flat clear coat to go over your paint. I think the Spondon was finished with a satin clear (it wasn't shiny).

Maybe PM Exben or Gibbo?

i used a product called barrier polythane AU-625(part A/B) then sanded it back with 1200 w/d and gave it a light polish with repo(red can) turned out ok but i got a few runs just muckin round , i just had to get rid of that awful red. they gave me a flattening tinter (protec 606 tinter), i tried it on another surface just with a brush and it does turn out a nice satin/matte colour depending on how much you use, troubble is no one in town could tell me the mixing directions so it was all trial. hope this helps

You can mix 2k clear with matting agent, talk with your local automotive paint retailer and they should point you in the right direction. Make sure you go to a retailer that sells quality paint, ie, Standox, glasurit, speis hecker, ppg or the like, not fucken motor spray or any other cheap shit. Standox sell a pre mixed satin clear, not sure about the others.

Thanks gibbo, I had heard of matting agents, wasnt sure of availability. My local stocks spies hecker so no issue with quality, I'll see what they recommend as far as satin goes. And i'll head down to kennards and borrow a compressor for the day. Happy days.

If it's Spies Hecker you'll need to apply for a mortgage to buy the shit too!!
Good luck with it.
