I think I know why Frank, this one started a day or two ago: http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=14224

As for me, I'm hunting something new at the moment as I've exhausted my Ipod and Triple J has gone all hip hop on me. Arse.

You got a point with the J's there Si,I've been wondering how long this phase will go for.I've been listening to JJJ since 1980 and it always was the station of choice (my choice) but I do reckon that when Chapman took over in the late 80s this phase sequence started. No set length to them either,a few months of this style,a few weeks of that style.Overall though they still do alright if your willing to listen at odd hours for what you want.
Still...was a sad day for mine when they got rid of Tony Biggs but there's no way I'll miss Maynard "f sharp" Crabbs.
Frank,as for Deep Purple,I never really became a big fan, even though I'm well old enough to be, but I'll tell you what,Ian Paice is a fucking legend and I'm still listening to any cuts of his drumming I find on drum forums and "fucktube".
What I'm listening to though Frank is all Tool, same reason as above...the drumming! Danny Carey is just fucking ace.Listening to the albums it doesn't immediately stand out but these are some full on beats and although you rarely get to see D.C drumming with any quality videos a guy on "youwatch" (look under posts by tbartels) does some vids of his own drumming to Tool songs and,if you like drums, they're summat to see.
Here's some for drum fans

The time signatures in Carey's stuff is awesome. Tim Alexander tried to carry his style in "Judith" by A Perfect Circle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23eZMdixAuk

not a drum fan as such but a massive TOOL and APC fan so i enjoyed watching that all the same :D

question-take D.c out of TOOL is he still as good a drummer?

this is not a smart arse question just curious as to how much input a drummer has into a band and vice versa.

One of the few posts of yours I understand.
I still love "point man". Have you heard their latest (2001)album "this is This"?

The Mark of Cain are one of my fave bands, they chewed through a few drummers but Stanier suited them perfectly I reckon.Saw him with Helmet also and that was some gig...love the Hordern for live music.
I believe TMOC have new stuff to be released shortly, and hopefully!

As for Danny Carey and Tool,I don't reckon they'd be the same band without him but the others have a place in this outfit.
Adam Jones may be a guitarist of limited capabilities if you believe what the music press say (believe...press...your choice) but I like his stuff and it works for Tool in my opinion.
That said though Bluemk1,his drumming in Pygmy Love Circus is still magic.
Another I like to see play is Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree, not my style of music really but his playing is brilliant in my opinion.

Not Deep Purple again Frank, sorry! No hijack intended.

This thread:

Most( being 85%) bands are useless scabs ( be it very rich scabs) that were, shit at sport, bashed at school, or in the army, and cause they could not handle authority, left, to hang out, in safety, with other lefty tree huggers. And worst, are those that sing about 'tough subjects' in order to sleep better at night.... Not many of those fuckers have ever patrolled 'point' real time!!!!!

in a word "GHEY"

The other 15% are great artists

Just my opinion

cheers

Pete

Yeah Pete,I can understand your view towards TMOC and Maynard James Keenan, as you mentioned no names,I'm assuming that is who you aimed (sic) for.I've heard that the Scott brothers are as you described and fuck knows what to make of MJK.
Luckily you can listen to the music without having to agree with it's lyrical content or buy the T-shirt.Being able to separate what people are trying to say in song from enjoying the actual music is a handy trait I reckon.

I hate music, but I love the noise it makes.

Just my opinion
Cheers

I agree with you but I think the only reason why 'tuff' song`s exist is that there is a market for them & on the other hand I also enjoy 'The Planets' by Holst [:0] Those in the street who really are evil [}:)] try not to advertise it ;)& you full well know it[8D]
