Great forum, I'm new to it so I'll be back with pics of the "ratfighter".
Is there a way to run an external oil cooler on my '98 ZX6R? It's a water-cooled sandwich-type stock setup that I don't really have a problem with, but I like the looks of fork-mounted oil coolers. Do any of you Kawasaki guys know how I could do this?

Thanks,
Crazy Cale

Hey Cale. Welcome aboard mate. That sounds like a question for Exben. He's got a lot of knowledge on the ZX's.

Gday madmax, what you need to make (or have made) is a plate that bolts onto where the oil cooler would normally go,that feeds into two lines, then just hook these up to your oil cooler. The only tricky bit is making sure you get the in/out matched up in the plate properly.

Something like this.Except yours will have the oil filter on the front of the plate, so the oil will come out of the motor, through the cooler, then into the filter & back into the motor.( Just like standard)
Oh & you'll have to block off the water lines that normaly run through the standard cooler.

You guys are cooler than the guys in the US forums. The're decent guys, but they like to beat around the bush before they answer any question and half the time they rip ya for asking! ***EXBEN***, thanks for the pic! I'm very visual, so pics help a ton! I can't belive I didn't think of that adapter!! Those are commonly available in the US, I'll figure out the thread size and order one up, have it on in no time. I'll puts pics on as soon as I possibly can!!! You guys won't be dissapointed, But beware, it's nasty lookin'...

Check out the "Ratfighter"! I know it's a mess right now, but I've had it together and apart at least 10 times. I'm modifying a ZRX1200 top clamp right now so I can use drag bars instead of back-breaking clip-ons.

I love that front view...I think it would look even meaner with the oil cooler below the lights mounted on the forks with some black stainless lines and those "Earls" line seperators. I'm open for suggestions guys, If you know any way I can make this thing more frightening to small children, elderly people and any general law-abiding do-gooder, LET ME KNOW!!!

First up I'd lose that dash mate and the bracket holding it and replace it with a small digital number like the one's Ben sells:
http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2467&SearchTerms=dash That way the emphasis is taken away from them and more onto the width of the bars and the small lights. The flat bars will make a shit load of difference as well. good move.

Check out that dented tank. I'll probably replace it this winted, but If you guys think I should leave it, maybe I will. I'm on the fence. See the Jolly Roger decal? I think that adds a nice touch. That seat was made by yours truly. My first seat, didn't turn out too bad. Leather can be quite the pain in the arse to work with.

I know it, the ZRX clamp actually used normal round guages, so that would be the perfect place to mount them. Another project for this winter. I just wanted to make it legal for now so I can ride it before it snows, which is about 2 weks away. It's already frekin' cold outside. I'll still ride 'til it snows out though.

It actually reminds me of my old '89 ZX10, but this was over 11 years ago so the styling is a bit old now:

guess you can tell I like the ratty black look as well:

she's a bit different again from this now and about to get another face lift.

Check this site out. ***BEWARE!*** If you're at work, turn the MUTE on, they have some stupid sound effect on the site home page.

Hi Madmax, check out my ZX6. I played with the high front mount cooler but changed my mind. The plumbing restricted the turning of the front-end. I ended up putting it above the rear shock by bolting it to the underside of the tail piece.(you'll see what I mean when you look under yours). It looked pretty cool from behind.
As for the dented tank...don't change it. If you make your bike perfect, you won't ride it hard! Mine was also dented so I put a leather Bagster cover over it. And this keeps your fuel cool. A problem you wont have over there. Where exactly do you live?

Where could I see you ZX6? Is it in the gallery, or do you have a link?
I live in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

Found the ZX6/12, pretty wild! I wanted a 12R but couldn't find one cheap enough salvaged. The motors are spendy. (straightliners!)

OH, I forgot to ask, do you have any pics of what the fork-mount oil cooler looked like?

Don't think I do. I sold the motor out of her so the cooler is gone too.
Minnesota, nice place(in Summer)!!!
I still have the rolling frame.....not sure what to do next??

Hey mine wasn't a fork mounted job. It was a rear mount, in front of the rear wheel above the shock!

Madmaxman, if you look in YOUR RIDE, and go to the second page, check out CUTCATS zx6/12 fighter. The second pic down is a rear shot, you can just make out the cooler and the plumbing going to it. I ran a oil line each side of the motor. Good luck.
