Hey,

So a while back I introduced myself as being a newbie and wanting to get a 600 and wanted to get some advice about what to look for, etc.

Anyhow, I picked an 1999 Yamaha R6 for a good price - 10months rego. A couple scratches on the fairing, only slightly though. Here are the specs:

- Custom FULL RACE exhaust (OVER brand)
- Anodised blue levers and tyre/valve caps
- Anodised blue bobins/ race stand bolts
- Custom hand grips
- Custom air filter
- Braided brake lines all around
- Oggy knobs
- 47,000kms on the odometer

Owner's claiming 130BHP...

So, I'm wondering. What do you guys reckon it's worth? What do you think about the horsepower claim?

Also, he says the gearing been changed for Philip Island - what impact'll that have for street riding?

Appreciate your thoughts/ comments.

Cheers

not sure what they are worth in oz mate
but with the gearing it depends on the
size sprockets he used,if he only went one down on the front
which most people that use them on the track do
you'll be ok on the road with it
it's just your speedo won't read right.

Hp claim sounds a bit exagerated to me, I wouldn't of thought an R6 would make that much power. Throw it on a dyno mate nd find out for sure.

From memory the specs sheet claimed 120BHP at the crank.....which was quite optimistic at the time, so I wouldn't be holding my breath for 130 off a dyno.

Other than that, it sounds like a nice bike. They make neat fighters, too ;)

It seems a bit high for an R6. Had one back home, same year, they're heaps of fun, but they did come out with 108bhp from factory, so 130 is seeming a bit high

youd need to change more than the zorst for 130.

Ask for a dyno sheet:)
and whats he asking so we have a refrence

I've done a little reading online and it seems to me that, while the 130 claim is still quite high, there's no way it's at the back wheel - must be at the crank. And even then... I think Docktor's on the money.

Or am I still in fairy-tale land?

I'll speak to him tomorrow and ask where the number's been pulled from.

i'd say that would be right...a busa spose to have 200hp out of the box but iv never seen one do it unless its had the spanner's put on it...or turbo'd !

Harry, one thing with the old first Gen R6's and R1's is the gear box. The strip out second gear very easy. This is very exspencive to repair, and not easy job to do. There piggy back gear box set up is a prick to get to.

As for the HP, the 08 supersports are pulling 140bhp at the rear tread, and there full works bikes! So a road going 130Hp R6 is a little much to beleave.

But for 4.5 grand, thats not a bad little price as long as the gear box is good.

The engine could be good in Large's kart
