Out side varnishing 1/2 kilometer of lining board and the mind started to wander....
Has the idea of making ASF more of a club ever come up ? Nothing heavy duty or political (been there, done that..sort of), but more a way to help ourselves.
For instance insurance companies always ask if you belong to a club. A small membership fee $5-10.00 a year, to pay for this site amongst other things, maybe a small cloth patch for your jacket, Associate membership for overseas and mainly HUGE discounts from all sorts of places....hopefully.
Just the ponderings of a fume sniffing pom..... [:o)]

This has come up a few times in the past. Previously we had just a handful of dedicated members but things have changed since then and there seems to be much more interest than ever before. I open this question up to the members here: Would you be willing for a membership fee to be put in place to maintain this site and also for me to source discounts from Insurance companies/dealers/etc (you know the drill) and give you a patch as mentioned (I'm not talking back patch here, just a palm sized one for your sleeve or bottom jacket back). It could also go towards ASF events and give members preference when booking accomodation at these events (such as the Fools Run for example). My only fear is going to the effort of trying to organise all this only to find out 10 people are interested and a $100 (or whatever the final fee is) kitty appears to try and do all this with. Everyone who thinks they would be in to this, leave a message below and we'll all see what kind of response we get. Although we have over 500 members who have joined up in the forum I'd be interested to see who the real deal are and would like to take this seriously like the few I know do.

more of a business than a club. but hey, i could do with another job;)

i'm sorta interested, but the whole club thing brings in alot of work for those involved. i'd be happy to pay a membership fee, this site is like a bible to me! but i'm not sure i could help out with running anything at the moment.

This is a good response! Cheers guys. I can create member only areas for the website and forum, including a trading area (within the existing forum), events area and special offers area that only members can see. I will source the patches etc and get back to you with the outcome soon. I shall also create a members sign-up page and list all members and give them a member number (I just wonder who number 1 will be?). I am open to any suggestion you might have and things that you personally would like to see as I will do my darnedest to sort it out. Just let me know.

Well there is actually (something you can do to help out that is). I'd like to have a reprsentitve for each state who i could call on as my ears and eyes in their respective state. Do I have any volunteers? I'm not asking them to give up their lives for ASF, just someone who might be able to co-ordinate rides, events etc for their local area. I obviously have SE QLD covered but it would be good if I could have someone for everywhere else. I also plan to have a members only area within the events section for people who come onboard as full members and each person that gets the job for thier area would become a moderator of the part of the forum. So do I have any nominees or volunteers?

The areas I am thinking are:

SYDNEY AND SURROUNDING AREA

WESTERN NSW

CENTRAL COAST

MELBOURNE AND SURROUNDING AREA
Volunteer: Gibbo
2nd Volunteer: Foxy
3rd Volunteer: Deano
4th Volunteer: Peshh69

NORTHERN VIC
Volunteer: Iceman

ACT

ADELAIDE AND SURROUNDING AREA
volunteer: geesexar

PERTH AND SURROUNDING AREA
Volunteer: Rocket

NORTH QLD
Volunteer: 03gixxerpilot

NT
Volunteer: Benz

I know a few of these areas are very low on members but as ASF expands we will need someone. These same people could look out for reputable dealers/wreckers/engineers, keep an eye out for events happening in their area, devise ride out routes and meetings and see who would be interested in giving discounts for ASF members in their region.
Sound's a big ask? It wouldn't be that hard with the amount of members we currently have. Also, if we don't plan ahead we won't have a tight ship and this will just remain an internet based thing. Meetings and events have proven to be the heart and soul of this group so I think we should focus on that now to create a great community.
Let me know your thoughts and pipe up if you can help. If we have multiple volunteers we will take a vote.

all we need now is a cubby house and some porno mags and it will be a real gang.:D
it goes without saying that i support this gig,as long as Ozkat doesn't suggest we all wear vest's again.[xx(]
And just for the record...next years annual ASF fools run planning is well under way,so book your holidays for the 1st weekend in April 2007 as registered members will receive priority.Without giving away too much info at this stage it will be south west of Sydeney. The venue has an airport for all the NT/WA/SA/FNQ members who cant ride that far and can accommodate over 2000 people. This event will be sponsored by the local bike shop who is also puting on a BBQ for us and staying open late for anyone who needs spares/tyres/hookers/condoms...and the live music will be well worth the ride this year as well.Stay tuned for more info in the near future, this will be a well organised event that you will regret missing and as per usual its a non profit gig,so be sure to show your support for ASF.Last run was a huge inspiration for 45 members so next year we're expecting about 150 at least.(even a few of our oversea's members will be there).
anyhow thats my 2c worth for now,so make sure you visit here every day to see if the event details have been posted.
cheers
Davo

Ok Guys. I got something I really didn't want today. ASF has become a lot bigger and so have the website hosting fees. Today I got hit with a bill for an increased annual fee. I have covered everything up until now but this is taking it over the edge a bit. I know you have all offered and I have always refused but this time I will have to accept. I will try and create a membership fee so you can become fully fledged members and supply a members only area to the website with stuff that I won't reveal out here in the public forum. I also try and get these stickers sorted and allocate everyone a member number (for preferencial bookings etc further down the track). Would you guys still be willing to pay $20 for a year's membership? This money would go solely to ASF and running the site and all fees involved, and if there's any left over it would go to any other events etc (but judging by my new fees I don't think there will be much left over!) Let me know your thoughts and if you are still all in and I will start taking membership requests.
