Its a clubman kart with a KT100S.

I might give it a run like this, but the plan is to add a 600-750cc motor al la www.gixxerkart.com.

Just got to chop the seat in half and add a few inches of width first

If you whack a 600cc in, I reckon you're gonna need a longer wheel-base to handle the wheel-spin. :D

What motor and does it come with a wiring harness?

I'm thinking of getting a stat write off/pallet bike for all the bits.

so whats the plan Large ?. Wot ya got sorted for it ?. I got my 1100 bolted in but i reckon a r6 donk is gunna eat mine for dinner. If you wanna girl out and go old skool on it I may have a spare 750K motor kickin around in a weeks time. Mine is lengthened about 600mm and double strengthened from rear to halfway down with another frame welded on top of the other. trying to stop it twisting under power

Nothing yet. Just going to keep an eye on the auctions for a stat write off in 600-750 size and go from there.

Got any pics of your install?

I was thinking of running angle stays up to the top of the motor to add a bit of twisting resistance to the back.

the motor is back outof it right now for seat relocation :). I will get the seat sorted and then drop the engine back in. Wot did ya score off the the gay of e's?

The engine sits about 3/4 of a inch above the frame of that helps ?.
motor same angle as it would sit in a bike as you can tell by the writing on the sideplates.
chain will be SHORT :)

Is there a reason the motor couldn't sit down a bit more between the frame rails? are you off roading it?

That chain will be about 32 links I reckon[:p]

I scored this from eGay-

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110351775506

It didn't look like much in the ad but i've been learning from the master ;), so I took a punt on it and ended up with this-

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/20004622686661.JPG

Plus it came with 2 stands, a starting trolley, bead breaker, 3 exhausts, tacho, enough spare bearings, a sprocket and brake carriers to put a 40mm axle on the other kart, heaps of sprockets/chains/plugs/carb parts/tyres/wheels/cover and lots of weird little kart specific tools etc etc

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/20004622636617.jpg

plus about 30kg of ballast lead incase I'm not heavy enough

:D:D

Docktor

I just didnt want the engine resting on the rails is all. no offroad here. gives me a little room for oil changes and shit like that, have to extend the chassis about another foot so me head isnt sitting on the zorst pipes. back to the steel shop tomorrow for some round stock , either that or go pinch a shoppin trolley.

wot ya gunna do with the new kart ? , ya not thinkin of using that for ya bike engined kart ? excellent buy for 500 scheckels indeed. guess ya got plenty of lead to make some sinkers hey ? :)

Large
23-02-2009, 05:46 PM
Is that another foot on top of what you've already extended it?

New kart is way too good to chop up. I'm going to have a few runs in it at the local track.

Docktor

skiddz
23-02-2009, 10:37 PM
dunno if its worth mentioning but wouldnt solid mounting the engine give excess vibration in the frame leading to failure?

IMHO could be worth getting some rubber mounts, i saw somewhere a while ago some dude made his own for a 1UZ soarer/crown/some other toyota/lexus

Docktor
23-02-2009, 10:52 PM
I thought about that, and then decided stuff it. it has the same rubber mounting it had in the bike so if its good enuf for the suzi gods its good enuf for me

Bike engines ruin the balance and handling of a kart.

If you want a really quick kart you only need to get a XR50 engine.

It's a 250cc rotary, makes 52HP and it fits in the normal kart motor spot etc. No weight penalty. No handling penalty.

Really needs front brakes but LOL.

I've always wanted to fit a speedway solo bike motor to a kart and try that.

If neither of the above are enough, then a twin engine version of either would still be better than a bike engine.

Stocky
22-03-2009, 06:41 AM
Here's the Rotary, it's not the best pic of the engine sorry.

This thing is MENTAL fast.

Will not keep tyres under it.

Flogs a 125cc 2 stroke, 6 speed gearbox (ICC) Kart.

In NZ they race them in a 250 open class. You can run anything up to 250cc. Including bike engines and gears / methanol etc.

The Rotary wins. You change the exhaust and the ignition a bit and they jump to 64HP.

SAETTA built a twin engine one, I've got a photo of somewhere.

Ya not gunna believe this Stocky but i aint building it for balance or handling .......
Im building it coz i can. Them donks sound like fun but i didnt have one layin around.

Stocky
22-03-2009, 09:53 AM
Fair enough on the "cause you can" comment.

Funny you ask about the torque, it's actually the most impressive thing about the engine.

I expected a Rotary to be all revs and no grunt. Turns out it's a grunt monster.... see below

Yeah I've been doing a bit of searching and I think I'd need the HRC harness too for that solution.

Large,
A way to save on dyno time would be to sus out formula SAE as they all run 600cc bike engines. there will be someone that has done a tune on a CBR600. You can get an Adaptronic for $1000 and it has an auto tune function, I also know that it has been used on FSAE cars as well.

I think the SAE engine have some serious restrictions mandated (exhaust washers) which would make them less useful as source of info. Unless of course you want to restrict the power :)

Yeah the FSAE cars run a 23mm restrictor, my point was that the base maps and settings would be there and you can use the auto tune function, which is excellent, to sort out the fuel and ignition.

It turns out that 5 years after Australia started getting bikes fitted with immobilisers, the seppos still don't order them with security on most of their models - maybe something to do with an "amendment" to their constitution. So I bought a harnes and ecu from the states (eGay - Simpson Cycles- highly recommended) for ~ $370AU delivered (including fucking bank fees)

The "magic" key is actually just a bent bit of wire with a bit of green masking tape to make it look professional. I'm all about keeping up a professional image me[:p]

Large, I just noticed in your cart pics what looks like the remains of a PW80 or PW50?
Do you want to get rid of that?
