well, i took a bit of a risk snd bought this unseen on eBay

but for $1000 plus about $500 more to get on the road
(link in steering replaced, used front tyre to replace tuffed retread, pink slip & rego cost)

i got me this rough looking piece of bike hauling madness

outside its rough, but once your inside it is juicy and completely gratifying

Tops Fimpster !! :D
I love a good engine conversion, I bet that one goes pretty well but doesn't stop or steer too good. :(
The VN Commonbore V6 is the easiest car in the world to turbocharge too, although it looks like you'd be a bit tight on space in that thing.
Stick a LSD/locker in it & go straight to donut heaven. ;)

yes, i was considering calling the previous owner in relation to this particular component

http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/upload/38639869184317.jpg

it keeps spinning and making funny screeching type noises [8D]

steering is MUCH better after the mechanic replaced the pitman arm in the steering

before that there was about 15-20 degrees of slop before the steering actually responded

it made getting it back from the other side of sydey interesting!!!

28-01-2008, 05:37 PM
I had the same van an did 500,000 kms in it no problems untill the big problem "water pump" then melt down, but it let me know I just was'nt willing to take my foot off or stop till it did ,now that told it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fimpBIKES
29-01-2008, 08:17 AM
yeah chop, your right

it really is a cunt to work on, especially as far as doing the gearbox swap went

couldnt just slide the gearbox off the engine cos it interferred with the body
(guess how we found that little gem out... yep, 15minutes of grunting wondering why the gearbox didnt want to slide off and as soon as i climbed out and looked from the top it was pretty fuckin obvious!)

so yeah, not ideal

but fuck-it
shouldnt need to do another gearbox swap for a while and the engine seems strong

as far as driving it, i would prefer you trailered it
i can wait a few weeks or whatever

if what is wrong is the starter relay then its up in the dash
which means it has to come off, and its a fiddly job
take at least a day to get confirmed, and then you need the parts

not trying to scare you off buying it, just that i dont think my parents are going to want any more hassles (and they have let me use there shed for more than just the original "week" that it was going to be in there for)

can get more photos on the weekend when i go up there ;)

Oh yeah I remeber seeing this.....Love it!

Your sister has a drag car!! NICE!! What year model Cortina? Motor? Times? Pics?

I've got plans to put an XR6T motor into a TD Cortina or an EL Falcon.....500rwhp weighing a bit over a tonne!![:p]:D[}:)] Keeping an eye out for a good roller and waiting for some spare cash.

Spare cash is kinda hard to come by as I'm spending all my money on a car that I don't have yet! Just picked up an intercooler, injectors and intake for a XR6T that I'm planning on getting soon.

You should supercharge the van so you can have an armrest!!

BANDITROD

my sisters car was a TE cortina she has lost interest in cars and is now focused on bikes she is about to go for her P plate bike licience and her car wasnt that quick but it had a worked 4.1lt in it and on the 1/8 it was running consistant 9.9/9.97 which wasnt to bad for an old corty and as for the van getting supercharged i had thought about that but have heard alot of bad reports about the V6 shitting itself once you start changing pulleys to crank up the boost i dont want to pull the engine down if i dont have to so i will prob just leave it the way it is...now i must point out that i am NOT a holden man soany info on go fast parts that work well for these puppies would be great

i have alway wandted to drop a XR6T engine into a cortina just never had the funds but you better post up pics if you get around to doing it mate

latheboy

Its a big job to get the XR6T into a EL, full cut and shut on the fire wall but dont be scared, i guess it'll be the same as the corty DO IT ... DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

EDIT: I was thinking XD, the EL should be alot easier.

That's good to hear!! I've got blue blood mate so can't help you with any Holden info.

The Corty prob won't happen for a while as I'm building a house this year and also wanting to get the XR6T running like it should. I'm hoping to get around 350-380rwkw (470-510hp)out of it so should run 11's.

JETXR did it a few years back, had to cut out the bonnet and a few other things, can't remember exactly.
