I took the ugly plastic rear guard off my bike and mounted the number plate straight onto the underside of the bodywork. Looks heaps better I reckon.

hey Matt.. your Zthou is lookin nice.
Not sure if you've already done it or not, but if you haven't I can highly recommend the 636 rear shock swap. I got an '05 636 shockie from eBay US for about $120 delivered, was the best $120 I've spent on the Z1k yet. It will feel like a new bike if you do it :)

yeah that was on my list of things to do. does it make the front feel really ordinary now? was it an easy swap over?

AgentOrange
11-10-2006, 02:23 PM
very easy swap over...
If you get the '03-04 shock it's a straight swap.. if you get the '05-06 shock you need to mix the bushings on the lower shock mount.
I used the 05-06 shock as I wanted the newest I could find.. I managed to pick it up from eBay with the linkage which was great as that meant that I got the bushing I needed.
It should take about 30mins to install, 1hr to have it installed, tested and the garage packed up :P

Mixing the bushings on the '05-06 is easy as.. basically with the '05-06 636 shock the bottom shock mount is a little too wide to use both 636 bushings, if you take one bushing out and swap it with one from your Zthou it will fit straight in, perfectly.

The front still feels the same. I've got it set to 1/2 turn out on rebound, and two rings visible on the compression adjustment. The bike feels 100 times better now, no comparison at all. I would have spent alot more to get the same results.. for the money I think it's an excellent mod.

Here's an R6 shocky on eBay for $150 buy-it-now. It's an 06....

hi Matt. Have you plugged the small screw holes up on the end that held the inner pipe in? do it if you havnt. i'til sound even better!

Matt
24-10-2006, 07:15 AM
no i havent yet mate, i was still deciding if it is too loud or not. I like it now but it is very loud. I think I may need the holes to put the baffles back in for the machinery inspection 'WHEN' I get pinned.

31-10-2006, 03:20 PM
I have put a set of micron's on my S.V.1000 and they sound great. I had to block up the holes tho as it made the noise sound a bit flat if you know what I mean. Microns are shit tho and I would never get them again. After 16,000ks their still blowing the packing out(thats if I sit on 200ks up the Bruce on the way home each day).I got some stainless steel poprivets and put them in the holes then filed them down. With the motor idling put your fingers over the holes and see if you can hear the diffrence.

Yeah it runs pretty good. its a little harder to get off the line fast, the only real time you notice any difference is just off idle speed. its a feels like the timing is slightly out. But really it is no drama.

Havent seen the new 750 mate, ill have a look for it. Yep he is doing the front suspension too. The suspension guy reckond the standard gear is absolute crap, but i thought it handled really well, so i cant wait to see what it is like with the new gear :D

I only rode it home via the highway, so i dont really know yet, the guy said i probably wouldnt notice too much difference around town, but it doesn't wallow around as much and sits more stable now. I'm doing a track day at QR on sunday, so i'll let you know how it goes.

Definately.....

I had my first track day on it yesterday at QR. It was sipmly miles better than standard. I cant comment on the difference between mine and a standard zx6 shock tho. It gave me much more confidence into corners and handled brilliantly
