View Full Version : Your favourite piece of road!!

So, whats go`n on, i`m sure everybody has their favourite bit of road, whether it be for a hard core fix,or touring pleasure no matter what part of OZ it is. I was born and bred in QLD, and can`t get MT NEBO&GLORIOUS out of my system. I discovered it 25yrs ago and love it, problem is so has everybody else, along with police presence.I did snowy mountains 5yrs ago, and loved that. I need to find an untarnished adrenalin fix any where in OZ, (preferably no police, and you`d only be sharing your secret with a few close friends) so, open up your hearts and share your love, (not in a weird way)
John

Alpine was beautiful but I've gotta get down to Tassie. I've looped the Island in a car and the roads were unfuckingbelievable. A week or two on the bike will be on the cards in the next few years. Clyde mtn (Kings HWY-Canberra to B'Bay) is a top run too when it isn't chocked up with boat towing cruisers and buses.

the Oxley would get a vote from me, double points if you go via Buckets Way (Glouster-Stroud-Taree from memory). That's a brilliant high speed roller coaster with lots of fast cresting sweepers and all that good stuff

Boulevard Périphérique (The Paris ring-road) in rush hour for keeping things interesting, Several other country roads in France i could probabley never find again...:(

The 160k/100miles from Kidderminster to Tywyn/Aberdovey/Barmouth across Wales / UK because I'd done it hundreds of times, knew it
well, and it had no boring bits.

The UK M5 Loooooong down hill stretch past Worcester for top speed 2am ZZR11/Katana "testing".

Around Brissy it would be the fast sweepers through Advance Town or
the nice open section between Splityard and Somerset Dam, the Boonah - Beaudesert section must get a mention.

Lots of the other sections mentioned are good too, I always enjoy a play over Glorious, Somerset dam, Malaney, Beachmont etc but its
nice to give a bike its legs through the open sweepers not just
stop-go bends that are more suitable to a light 6 or 750, although i'm not one to say no.

There is also a section from Atherton back down from the high country to Cairns I like,
Not the route up the range North of Cairn, this one comes out below / South of Cairns.
VERY good, seems like an endless snake of tight left/rights

For me it would have to be the alpine way! For closer to home scratchin tho, I'd have to say the clyde mountain n the road south of it all the way into bateman's bay! So much fun n rarely see cops there either!

LOcal, it would have to be the Beaudesert-Boonah Road, best ever in this country forgte waht it's called and I was told to keep it a secret, so let's just say it's south west of Bega. Mental ride? Have to be the TT circuit on Mad Sunday in 1997 at 6am in the morning - before the wanna be heroes came out (and crashed).

Twisties I like Long Flat to Gingers Creek on the Oxley and the Bruxner from Drake to Tenterfield is a hoot too, also Ebor to Nymboida is a fun twisty bit too.

Sweepers, Gingers Creek to Bendameer and Manilla to Keepit Dam can be fun when ridden in a spirited manner. Also the coastal side of the Buckets Way is a hoot and Dorrigo to Tyringham is nice sweepers.

Macquarie Pass and Kangaroo Valley are two nice twisty parts of Australia as well.

i go over glorious ever other w/end to get down to the open paddocks and up to tmba so if ya see a naked yellow slingshot wave me down mate......always good to meet other jockeys of the two wheeled faith.[8D][8D][8D]

From Kangaroo ground through Christmas hill and Panton hill to Yarra Glen, then to Healsville. Up the Black Spur for a coffee at Marysville. Up Lake mountain and onto Reefton Spur. Through Warburton then back to Healsville. From Healsville, (and another coffee)up the toolangi road, accross the Melba Hwy to kinglake. More coffee)then either St Andrews road to Eltham or Through Pheasant Ck to the long down hill winding bit I forget the name of into Whittlesea. I know the spur is 80ks now but if you get the wheel spinning out it still gets the juices flowing. The st Andrews road is not for the faint hearted either, especially downhill !!

Macquarie Pass and Kangaroo Valley are tops (and not far from my place!) I love the Oxley Hwy, but my absolute favourite is the run up from Khancoban to Kiandra. Good road surface, no gravel patches and all the corners have a constant radius (just watch out for the tight left at the top of the climb up from Tooma Dam). I try and get down there 3 or 4 times a year 'cause I never get sick of it!
Oh yeh and the 15 or so k's up over Granya Gap is a fucking ripper too!

Came through there at 6am this morning...[8D]

Not the most challenging but a great section of fast smooth flowing road.
Brilliant for working a Busa / B-King on.
6am = ready to grab brake and clutch, had 2 near miss's with 'roo's recently.

I used to ride Glorious-Nebo every weekend a few (about 5) yrs back. Loved it. Enjoyed the Dayboro - Maleny run too.

Personally for scenery I love the Bells Line. That's awesome coming out of Richmond towards Lithgo and looking out over the valleys just spectacular. (Even in a B-Double yep I know it's not a Double route).

Otherwise The Great Alpine Way to Tintaldra then over Hotham on the way to the GP works for me. But I'm pretty easily pleased.

What day/time? It's not far from my place!
Probly work Satdy and was thinking of hanging around Batemans Bay for the w/end. But if there's a chance of a fang around Mac Pass and Kanga Valley, my plans may change.
