Ok this site has stirred the bike builder in me, should have stuck to dragbike.com.au[B)] coz this will no doubt cost me when i thought i had stopped spending money on road bikes, I NEED to start a project or i will no doubt fall back into my drug and booze fuelled existence of yesteryear.

So i'm asking for opinions from some obviously talented and knowledgeable? bike builders, i have two ways of going in mind,

I want it to be light and reasonably quick in a cafe racer style, so option one: a pop up 750 kat with a 750 gixxer motor bare arsed and no frills as possible.

Or option two, im wondering if i could squeeze that same donk into a H1 mach3 triple frame, with beefed up front end and some real suspension, i know option two is crazy but i love the look of those frames and in a cafe racer style it would look awesome, alas the motor may be a bit big for the space available.

If anyone has suggestions frame wise, to achieve the same look im all ears as i have said it has to be a light and no frills ride, it will have just enough electrics to get it registered and little else, just the way i like em.:D

looking forward to your replies, be as negative or supportive as you want thats why i frequented this site, albeit from behind a computer, now its time to join you guys on some rides.
cheers, GK.

Option 2 is pure insanity, it's worth considering then. The H1 motor is the best bit about it, why not do a h1 cafe? I certainly wouldn't be keeping the rolling chassis, I actually threw one out 2 years ago (probably a bit rash)

Option 2, but make it 11 :)

I doubt you'd be able to squeeze a 4cyl 4stroke into a H1 frame without serious mods [:0]

How about a GS750 frame? Gives you the old skool round tube steel double cradle look without the engineering nightmares ;)

Although I'd like to see someone try a GSXR/H1 conversion.....[:p]

The more i think about it option 2 is not an option i'm not great with geometry and it would need some serious work to fix those famous handling probs the H1's had, that said the gs would be a hell of a lot easier re the motor transplant have already done it once.
as for an 11 motor i'm going with the 750 coz ive got one sitting here in the little drag bike with only 8 thousand ks on her 2001 model, the idea is to get on the road quickly and cheaply with something different.

Thanks for the option 2 support fellas, but something tells me you guys just wanna see someone trying to handle what would surely be real pig while you laugh your arses off.
cheers GK.

do option 1, pop up headlights are just too cool and there need to be more bikes with them. :)

Ok fucked both those ideas off this afternoon, dropped my race leathers off for a new set of zips (gotta lose some weight) at my local upholsterer bloke and i spy a little classic under an old tarp, perfect for my cafe racer town bike a 1975 cb400 four super sport lookin a bit sad but complete and the bloke said his old man has owned it since new and its lucky to have 5000k on the clock, now these little suckers weren't as quick as your RDs or kawa triples, but they stuck like shit to a blanket on the corners, and stripped down and track prepped embarrased a lot of bigger cc bikes in the classic racer scene, so to end a long story i said how much you want for it Dino? he said how does $500 sound? I said fuck thats a little steep;) as you do, and he says well what if i throw in a free upholstering job on the seat when you finish the cafe seat base.
I said deal mate i'll pick it up saturday, so i'll post some pics then, little fucker still starts up and runs like a dream, if it was registered i could have joined the boys on the border run this weekend:(

Old 400cc 4 cyls are absolute gold in Japan, you'd probly get a few grand for it if it cleaned up OK, one of the sexiest sets of headers ever to come out of the factory too.
There's always the option of a SOHC 750 conversion with the full 1200+ cc 130 HP T Rex treatment ;) [:p]
