Had this tail unit for a while.

I'm alergic to the dust from fibreglass and CF so I've been hanging off starting this job.

The tail unit is a complete self supporting piece (no subframe)

It's made for a K5/6 GSXR750 so the first thing I had to do was cut the top part of my frame off [:0]

Then clean up where it was...

The unit is not too far off fitting but I'm going to need to do some cutting and shaping.
The trick is going to be to get the seat height right, a neat fit around the fuel tank and not damage the paint on the tank in the fitting process.
I'm not normally real patient with this sort of thing but I guess I'll learn (or have to repaint the tank LOL)

mate that is one of the sweetest gsxr in aus for sure and i didnt realise it was yours when reading about it in RAPID.

the seat is going to look good too but i was wondering how you are going to actually fit it to the bike?? i can see the obvious rear mounts.

There are some tabs under the tank that match the tank support tabs on the frame

Good luck mate - will watch this one with interest.
Have you weighed the bit you cut off yet? ;)

Yeh it's 566g LOL

It's turned into a bit of a major project.

Sometimes I don't think things through before I start cutting and stuff ;)

Turns out it's better to cut it in half and make it about 50mm wider. I'd done too much damage to the front part by the time I'd figured that out so now I'll have to rebuild the whole mounting part at the front.

I've made some alloy bits to hold it for now.

I'll also custom make the "Red" bits in the 2nd photo to blend all the frame/tank/tail all together etc.

Might just get Ben to do it yet LOL
