I have some wicked timing issues on my Z1000J - Dyna s and a bent ignition rotor - 2/3 pickup timing is spot on 1/4 pickup is about 30 deg advanced and moves all over the shop on throttle up.

I am looking for a new rotor/ will attempt to repair mine [ resuface mounting face on a lathe ].

How does one check for a bent crank without opening the case?

Has anyone had to deal with this shit before??

Try and mount a clock gauge or even a pointer from the engine case onto the end of the crank (without the rotor/ advance)and turn the motor over or even point the rotor 1&4 and check the gap between the rotor and the pick up and then turn it to 1. If it was a bent crank I think that the timing would be out on both 1&4 and 2&3 as the crank would be out on both sides by the same amount.I would look at the pick ups and make sure that they are tight and in the right position.
I have dyna s on my 650 and I believe that the ali rotor needs to be kept well lubricated or it wears out quick.
