Avoid NAVMAN at all costs. I work for a mate part time in his marine dealership and they suck.

Always coming back for warranty and repairs.

Mate has a Tom Tom and it seems to be the goods.

it dosn't need to be anything fancy just touch screen (the bigger the better) and tell him where to go.

he is not that great with technology as i think he is still struggling to work out the dig camera i got him last year.

the simplier the better

Mines a gregorys - A4 size screen, touch/interactive....street directory...

Around here the sat navs always point you to roads that are either 2 seconds behind you, unfinished, not even started, or 100m off to one side

heard good things about tom tom though. some of the cheaper ones have some shitty chinese software (probably the ones I was using)

Agree, I've had a TomTom for a while with good success. It's worthwhile spending a bit extra (still under $400 I think) to get the One XL which is a bit bigger and has the SD card slot so you can upgrade maps or change regions easily

For anyone i would suggest a 4.3" screen, just makes things that much quicker to understand, and for bang for your bucks TOM TOM is the way to go. As far as functionality the Garmin is probably the best but I would go for the TOM TOM due to their maps (whereIs) and way point technology.

I would suggest stoping your bike, lifting your visor and saying "Ear mate, joow know the way to"...............
