If you're willing to look for 00 - 04 models, there's heaps of good buys in your price range. Z1000/750, ZX9, Bandit, some GSX14's, SV1000, 929 Blade, R1, FZ1,.... take your pick.

with the k2 gixers would it be hard to tidy up their large arse with a later model tail piece?????????? or would the sub frames be too different

Early model Hayabusa.
$8k cash under someone's nose will buy you one.
Commutte, Drag, Tour, F#ck about, scare yourself.
Tuff motors, Not short of a few Ponys, Lots of
go-faster stuff or gay bling.

8k is easy, plus a lot of bikes are going for a good hit under advertised price. You should have no problems. New Z750 Kwakas and ZX6-R's have been on sale in the dealers in the 10k range this year so 8k should be a shoe in.

would it just be a matter of removing the rear tail unit and trying to fit brackets to match a new one and fit all the other business??

If you want to buy from a dealer please be aware they are not your friend.
EVERY sports bike has been thrashed, taken to a mate's barbie and smoked up!
What you need to look at is dealer service history (oil changes at every 3000k is good) and any "crash damage" funny little scrapes/marks a few new parts here and there ect.
Any bike 750cc up made in the last 5yrs will scare you shitless at full revs!!
Do not believe anything a salesman tells you, go for bottom $$$ price ride away with insurance, tell 'em the bloke down the road will do it cheaper until you get the deal you want.

cheers mate, yeah im not too keen on goin for something over 600, fuk im luky to be here after coming off the thing 3wks ago.but the places i've checked out its easier to pick up a 750/900 over a 6 but when the right one pops up i'll take it. ive probably got more to play with now my insurance forgot to add my accesories to my claim yeah may be able to get my baby gixer after all[:p]
