Hey all. Had a search of the net and can't find any info. on whether I am able to replace the standard rear shock on my 07 VTR250 with a 2nd hand shock off an SV650. No reason other than I need to replace the current shock as it's turned to shit after too many kms.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Rosie

Hi you will get a better response if you intro yourself first and as for your question as long as they are the same length and you get the spring to suit your weight etc then it will be fine

Hi Banditrod - thanks for your reply. Please excuse my rudeness in jumping right in. Will fix that now. :)

As for the shock length, not sure how to find that info. out. Will check the specs. Ta

thats ok and the easiest would be to measure the stock on between centres of mounting holes and then i am sure someone here will have the sv measurement so you could then crossrefence and see what mods if any need to be done

vtr runs no linkage.... look for one of the kawi 650 (ER/versys) or a ktm dirtbike..

Ah. Thanks chadams. It was suggested to me that a CBR600 rear shock may work. Would you know?

Actually - does anyone know if a VFR400 would fit. Also, anyone here able to tell me how I can learn what will and wont work? Is it just a matter of getting a shock that is of the same measuremnts (re: banditrod's post). And how do I measure the shock?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks :)

Get yourself a measuring stick (vernia) and measure from the inside of both mounting holes then add half the Ø of each hole.. that will give you the approx lenght ... You will also need to make sure the Ø of the spring isn't to different from the OME spring, if it's alot bigger it wont go in the hole...

A VTR250 one should fit, just have it rebuilt.(and maybe get the front done as well).
Look up Frank Pons, if you're in Sydney,or Suspension Smith in Canberra.

Hey Rosie, Stewart from S W Racing gets down to Phillip island for most of the track days, he also works for the Honda supersport team setting up the suspension on the race bikes, you could catch him at the track and give him your shock to rebuild. His phone number is 0403 767 449, not a bad bloke, even for a Scotsman.
