View Full Version : Suzuki Big Ends?

A mate of mine bought a K5 gixxer thou just after I bought my K4 so it's about 3.5 years old and has only 24000ks on it.

And it's done a big end (I'm assuming they mean spun a bearing...?)

He's always serviced it on time and while he does a few clutchies, he's no mad stunter. He's getting the vibe that it isn't uncommon (Suzuki had 4 or 5 cranks in stock when they ordered his) He's up for about $4000 and isn't too happy considering his Katana's got 50000+ ks and his Hyperendurancer Gixxer is up uver 80000 and they're still going strong.
Anyone know anyone who's had the same problem?>

to me that seems uncommon and i am wondering if he has seen this damage himself with his own two eyes or whether they are just trying to rip him off

Write a letter to Suzuki telling them how disappointed he is with it and he'd like it covered under warranty since he's a loyal suzuki rider. Forget the wheelies, and stunts they never happened and include copies of the service history with his letter. They'll do it - Low k's service history long term customer = fix bike cheaper than losing to another brand.

That was always yamaha's unofficial theory anyway...

Make the letter sincere enough and they might just upgrade him to the latest model.:D

I have heard of it on 1k's , mostly turbo stuff , be interesting to see the damage and determine the real cause.

I would want to have a good look at the crank to see what has really happened to it.
Maybe oil starvation.

Did it ever fall of the side stand with the engine running
This can hurt some bikes quickly,
When I had a YZFthou I was warned about it.

I'd just like to say that there are real benefits to belonging to a forum that has so many great members (who may not all be regular posters) spread over the four corners of this test track we call Earth:)

Big wheelies?
They starve of oil if you hold one up high for a while..(std oil pickup is at the front of the pan.)

Update.

It turned out the bikeshop where it was serviced fucked up, the service manager knew about it and was going to charge my mate for the repair.

Someone who works there (and is a member here) gave me a heads up about what to ask and say etc.

Old mate did just that and got his bike back free of charge, with an apology to boot.

Old mate wants me to say thanks to the bikeshop in question....but it shouldn't have ever come to this.

Exactly. That's why I wont mention the bike shop, because it shouldn't have come to this.

What message?
