Hi Russ. Welcome aboard mate.
Well, you've covered everything there, twins, triples and fours - So basically you're open to anything! So, first things first: Best bet for you is start with a bike that suits you. Riding a twin is nothing like riding a 4 but riding a triple is a bit like both (?), so what is your preference? Find that first and we can go from there.

Gixxers are the most commonly 'fightered' bikes, followed by blades/Kwaka 9's, so there is a lot of info/assistance available with them. But what bikes do you know / have experience with, the more you know a bike the easier the modifications will be.

im leaning towards the twin i love the sound and ride plus i think it suits the muscle theme. havent really had much experience pulling a bike down and rebuilding im not to bad mechanicly and am a fast learner so am keen to give it a crack to keep costs down.

Russo, that depends on your budget and what YOU really want the bike to do. If you want a ballsy inline4 or a nimble, tourquey V Twin. The world of Streetfightn' is yours. Think of what you feel most comfortable with and not how it would suit you image!

There is a TRX850 I know for sale at $5k (and maybe less now as he is very keen to sell. I know the guy so let me know if you are interested and I'll tell him) - It's white and red so is looking for a strip down. (http://www.streetfighters.com.au/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2603) They are thin and have a trelis frame if that appeals? I personally like a fatter bike, a big 4, but most twins will appear thin because of the configuration. The winner in the Streetfighter modded twin seems to be the Suzuki TL models. That's where I have to jump out of the twins convo as I have no major experience with them. Over to the twin guys I guess.......

TRX's are pretty good and reliable. You could do a lot with 'em on a budget.

TL engines are the most reliable ones you can get. Honda builds good v- twin engines as well, I dont know about the rest, which hangs of the engine though.
Then you have the Italians Duc, Prilla, Guzzi- good handling and brakes. But you need some Money...

If you think you need an inline 4 with 150 HP or more, you have to talk to someone else... there are plenty of "Experts" in this Forum, hehehe!

russo, make up YOUR mind what you like... inline 4 (sports or zx12 style), v twin (jap or italian), orwhatever. Think in categorys. Otherwise you end up spending you money, just to find out that it is not what YOU want. I would go to the dealers and ride as many bikes as I can get my hands on. You'll get an idea...

I love zx12s. I wanted one instead of the blade but $ made up my mind for me. Dunno if they would make a nice fighter though with the monocoque frame?? Anyone wanna show me i am wrong? I have not seen any pics of them done. If it can be done nicely it will be my next bike for sure. I am a kwacka guy at heart.

ZX12's tend to go through the auctions fairly cheap too. Another one of those "sleeper" bikes compared to Busa's. The auction I bought my ZX9 at had an 02 ZX12 with just fairing damage go for $2500. Would have bought it if I hadn't already bagged the 9....

Get a Triumph speed triple, paint it matt black, put a loud pipe on it and revel in the best sound in motorcycling, as well as your unwavering support of the old country, black pudding, beer that tastes like shit and the fact that Johnno Coleman left here for there (thank fuck).
Then you can can sit in your ivory tower and scoff at all us colonist wankers who are riding jap crap as well as make jokes about italians running away.
You will however, need to be prepared to be bored shitless by some crusty old booze hag telling you about how she was a moll on the back of some equally crusty old dudes '67 Bonneville.
And also for all the old pensioners at the milkbar telling you about the rare Triumph enduro 650 they sold for two cartons of winnie reds back in the day when Yul Brynner thought lighting a durrie was cool.

Or you could do what these other guys say.

We had that topic on ZX12 before, a while ago. If ya keen, check out his forum.
The last one looks like it could do without a side stand.

suzuki TLs OR TLr are good fighter projects plenty mods & info avaliable here www.tlzone.net

& theres a billet 1120 kit in the works [8D]
this includes : 7075 alloy.. 104mm pistons rings and a crankcase thats atleast twice as strong.

the biggest down fall with the OEM suzuki TL is long mono's = spunn rod bearings due to the front starving.
