View Full Version : Clip-ons or handlebar??

I know I'm going to get different answers on this but before I start work on the R1 I want a few opinions on the subject. Looks wise i think that they both look kick-arse good, but what about handling?

WHich is better? Leave the clip-on and get better cornering??

Or will the risers and handlebar remain as good or improve handling?? if so, how come all sports bike come out with clip-ons?!?!?

wacky one if you want the best of both worlds do the conversion and run a flat bar. this gives you the cred of doing the swap and gives you the handling characteristics of running clip ons.

as for which is better that is a personal preference thing

I rekon it depends on what sort of look ur fighters gonna have Malta! Its good to do something different but it doesnt fit with the theme it defeats the purpose!

generally speaking clipons will place more weight over the front so will give better turn in, dirt bars sit you up more so you don't have as much wieght over the front but you'll have better leverage and also more comfort. If you're going to race it I'd go clipons if you're streeting then I'd go dirties. Of course you could always have both in the shed and swap them over when you feel the need.

I have tried all three and believe a flat drag bar is the best of both worlds (MX & Clip-ons).
I still sit nice and upright but have enough weight over the bars to get good feel out of the front end.

sportbikes are designed to have clip ons... keep em
can look good on a fighter imo.... a neat trick is to flip them over.... left on right side, upside down... gives the drag bar look, but keeps you low over the front

I do, and I've got a fairly wide set of renthals. But they're also tall enough to fit over most car mirrors.
I'm riding my mates (standard) 954 fireblade at the moment. The clip-ons make it easier for high speed cornering, but I prefer the MX bars on my fighter for around the city. Since I've had surgery twice onmy scaphoid, the higher bars are a lot more comfortable, too.

flat drag bars like cruise said. i have tried all three and these are the best compromise. this is for am everyday fighter. obviously if it was a trackbike you would go clipons as the stability and feel is important.

Think outside the box too mate...I tried the mx bars route..couldn't get on with them...
Tried some old Acebars.....perfect :) Raised up but got the downward 'clipon' angle

It was a custom job, sorry.

Plowing into a truck and parking it on its side seems to do the trick*

thats what i did on my 954, couldnt mount drag bars due to stepped yoke and rotary damper so i flipped my clip ons and have them out straight, taken it for a test spin and feels very good, more manouverability because they are wider, not as low riding position but can still throw it around. was cheap too as the clip ons were only $150 (can get them cheaper nowdays) compared to the cost of getting risers/new yoke made up.

Hey Jules,I have been battling this for ages -really like the riding style of the clip ons and lots people hear like bagging me out for them[:p]
I brought risers and triple clamps from Si, the not sure what bars I want (I want the riding style of the clip ons)
Sooooooooo I brought a pipe bender so I can play around with all different shapes to see what I like[:p] Womans logic lol made a semi good excuse to buy a new toy to play with;):D

The drag bar looks cool, just never ridden a bike with them on b4. Had a few naked's so I know what to expect on them. Just not sure about loosing performance from the clip-ons

Cruisecontrol

The only time you will notice the benefits of clip-ons is during high speed cornering 120kp/h+

Anything under that the wider bars are an advantage.

Cheers CC. That might be the way to go.

Besides, loved the look of them on your bike as well....

checked your site and says your risers and triples are not for road use, or am i looking in the wrong spot. how much would i expect to pay for a set of flat bars and risers to suit.

You can't polish a turd! (but you can roll it in glitter!!!)

Just some red tape, please ignore it as It will be changed soon.
