Hey guys,
Just wondering what the best/cheapest exhaust coating option would be.
Ive tried painting my exhaust with high temp paint, but after painting i put it back on the bike and within a minute of startin it the paint just fried up.
HPC coating was my first choice, although its not in the budget. How effective would it be to get the exhaust powder coated??? And will it withstand the heat????
Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

that shouldnt happen you need to let it cure for a while.
What kind of paint did you use?
If you used engine enamel then yes it would have burnt off

Powder coating would last you about 10 minutes then it'll be on the floor.
HPC it!:)

i did let it sit for a few days before putting it back on, but wen i did put it on, then i started it. and it fried.
I used 'Septone Heat Proof Paint'
supposed to be good for up to 650 degrees!!

I got my B12 exhaust headers HPC coated. Looks hot (no pun intended), lasts good and was <$300 delivered, I thought the price was OK considering the job they did. You can see the headers on the bike.

Yeah but diffrent temps for diffrent parts of the exhaust.
Better off with somthing like pot belly black or the prefessional coatings designed for headers.
You would have had it come off where the headers go into the block im guessing

yeah, it fried at d top, where it comes outa the head, then again where it bends under the motor.

Red hot steel ranges between 510 °C and 820 °C
Probably out of the temp range right out of the header. If you want it done just HPC it... Tho exben did just coat his headers in rattle can something... Ask him/check his thread.
With the heat paint, gotta makes sure the metal is ultra clean. Like fresh new headers, sanded back old headers or bead blasted to fresh metal. In my experience, that's the only way spray can enamel will stick once heated up.

I used pot belly black in a rattle can, gave the pipes a sandblast and cleaned the shit out of them with wax n grease remover/thinners. You can get it in tin and brush it on, but that would probably look shit

Decided not 2 waste time painting the exhaust again, I got a quote on ceramic coating that was cheaper than I expected, so im dropping it off tomoro.
Will just have to wait and see how it goes.

I'm liking that a lot. What level of prep does it need? (i.e. mirror finish polished) I gather it's effectively some sort of clear coating that just provides a protective layer
cheers
