Bloody picture shenaniagns. There is another post under this with another picture. Anyone know what these headlights are? Look like a Porsche / Mini headlight to me, can't think of what bike they are from.

2. And rusty exhausts, project bike has a very rusty exhaust. Once I get it all nice again, how do I keep it shiny and prevent any future rust?

Shitloads more questions to come as the build progresses...

They are Harley - Davidson V Rod headlights, they cost $500+ new from a H-D dealer but don't put one on your ZXR because it WILL explode. :(
I'm serious, it happened to me on the way back from AFR '06, the bike was stationery in a servo at the time. [V]

the only way to stop rust is to prevent oxygen reaching the metal (paint) or to reduce pitting of the metal which encourages localised moisture build up and subsequent exchange of electrons (polish)
Pretty much you want to eliminate the reduction/oxidation process which results in the production of FeO

I've been drinking again - sorry....

Some sort of HPC coating or an electromold/plating process then.... Fuck polishing, been there done that. Especially bad when you live at the beach.

I'm sober. Should have that sorted it about 10min though.

i've got a vrod headlight for my gixxer project

TK - any idea why it went pop (apart from being a hardly part?):D

Yes & no Watto, the little dome shaped reflector thingy that sits in front of the main globe came loose & popped out (top design on a $500 headlight :(), it sat in the bottom of the light for a couple of thousand kms bouncing around. My (loose) theory is that the vibration somehow caused an ultrasonic pressure wave to penetrate the glass lense & ..... Nah, I'm fucked if I know why really, it was never designed for the speeds ZX9 engined ZXR is capable of so it probly shit itself & comitted suicide ;)

There ya go mate I fixed your answer for you, it is the truth now...

Cruisecontrol - does too.

So far unable to find a dirtbike headlight I'm happy with. Keep coming up with the same shitty Acerbis/UFO ones.

HOS - Good idea, might try and find some Maltese cross mirrors too. Yeah baby. Oh and leather tassels, definitely leather tassels.

Do`nt forget the OCC hoodie and badass shades man :D:)

Seriously, do they do black chrome anymore ? I bought a new Motad Neta 4 into 1 system in 2002 and it was in "black" chrome. Looked smart.

I didn't even know black chrome existed. I'll look into it, could be a goer. Just looked up nickel plating which might do the trick also. Love the research, painful and so many little shitty things to sort out, but that's half the fun I think.

Weren't the GPZ750 ones black chrome? Not sure about the 900

I checked out online in the UK and theres a few chrome platers who do black, so there should be some out there in Oz.

Looks good and minimal maintenance.

Pity Motad supplied my 4 into 1 in about 30 seperate pieces.
Took 5 attempts to get the individual headers in the right holes and aligned properly. Pain in the... [xx(]

But happy when it was done...
