Was going thru some stuff and came across a disc that survived the fire.

I bought an old 89 GSXR from another messenger after he crashed into a cab and thought Id have some fun with it.

After I took off the bodywork and dug up some headlights from a box in the shed

Started with the exhaust on saturday. I didnt know this bike would take on a life of its own but I think this is where the heart started beating.

Cut down some cans from a GSX1100G

I had an old Kanatuna exhaust I thought might work well. I was looking for bottom end power on this bike so I didnt mind the smaller head tubes.

Cleared just fine

Finished product. I later added some Hayabusa end caps to the mufflers and turned out pretty cool.

I started thinking of bodywork. I had some options but ended up leaning towards a solo seat. I had an old YSR80 in the back and attacked it for the seat unit. I was going to chop the frame of the yammie but started looking at the GSXR and thought I could make that work.

I wanted the tail pretty level like it was on the YSR.

After some hacking and welding came up with this for a subframe

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/BanditMan1200/89%20GSXR%20Streetfighter/00356.jpg

Then it was time to make the seat fit.

I put a flat plate of aluminimum under the ass section and glassed the whole thing. It was strong enough for me to stand on when done. I also mounted the seat latch to it so it came off easy.

at this point I mounted the Dirty bars to the orignal top clamp with first gen. SV 650 bar mounts.

At this point it was just coming up with the lines and cables to make it all work. Painted it with grey trunk paint like in old cheveys.

The tail light was 4 LEDs and some old celing light diffuser plastic.

Rode it like this for a week to see if Im going to like it.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/BanditMan1200/89%20GSXR%20Streetfighter/00324.jpg

It was pretty cool, worked great but still needed something.

I found a swinger on Ebay for cheap and thought Id make it work.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/BanditMan1200/89%20GSXR%20Streetfighter/00284.jpg

It was an easy mount and I can use my fat wheel now too!

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/BanditMan1200/89%20GSXR%20Streetfighter/00287.jpg

This is when the bike went into full time messenger bike mode. I tried to make it just legal enough so I wouldnt keep getting pulled over. The mufflers had to go, it was just too loud. I tried some car exhaust tips I had on the Pinto but not quiet enough.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/BanditMan1200/89%20GSXR%20Streetfighter/00092.jpg

I had some megaphone mufflers from an Intruder and thought I would try those. At the same time I had to put a red lens on the tail light. The Cops around here at this point had a target on me. It was one of the first streetfighters in L.A. and they just didnt understand. Plus with riding on the average of 400 miles a day I had a lot of exposure.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/BanditMan1200/89%20GSXR%20Streetfighter/00076.jpg

I found a set of USD forks and mounted them up. It helped the handeling a lot. Same front brakes and wheels at this time. Higher dirty bars were fitted.

From there it went pretty much into a neutered bike. I went with a DOT headlight, turnsignals and TLS mufflers. They would let me slide on the airbox. I lost a disc in the fire that had more detailed photos but this is how it ended up. You can see the reflectors were reinstalled, a fender mounted on the rear, I took it off some sweet jumps for a movie and broke the rear wheel so I put some B12 wheels on it.

http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f359/BanditMan1200/89%20GSXR%20Streetfighter/DSC00006.jpg

Just after this photo I put an old B12 engine in it because the GSXR750 engine died.

Thats the story of my first real fighter...RIP...
