Your leather jacket isnt waterproof anyway, its covered in stitching. Have a look at it you goose. A bit more stitching wont make any difference.

Glue it on. Use a shoe goo that is flexible and scuff up the leather with a bit of 80 grit.

Sure beats sewing.

Last time I checked my Goretex wet-weather gear is covered in stitching. It doesn't get anymore waterproof than that stuff...

well i can ride in pissing rain for 2 hours and keep a dry upper body. i consider that fucking waterproof.
i wasn't sure if there is some treatment shit on the stitching.
shoe goo might be a good idea.

Buy a heavy guage needle (you can get specific leather needles, a curved one will help) and also get a plastic thumb cap to help you push the needle through the leather. It's a tough job by hand but if you've got the right tools...

Check out a Lincraft shop.

Also, some patches have a glue back that will melt when heated up by an iron. So, the real deal is to iron the patch in place (just use heat - no steam and cover the patch with brown wrapping paper so the iron doesn't touch the patch directly), then when it's stuck in place, stitch the edges.

If you don't stitch the edges, they'll catch when you brush up against things and pull the patch off.
