g'day all, just wondering if any one knows what the fattest tyre you can fit on an 85 gixxer rear is (currently has 150). or does anyone know what is the best swingarm to do a conversion to suit a 200 rear tyre is. thanks

150 is too fucking big and makes it handle like shit on the std wheel. Stay with the 140 on the std wheel.

I so fucking don't get the obsession with fat tyres...it don't make you go faster...it's all about fashion yeah ?

Slabbys need a slabby arm just put a later model wheel in it and it will look ace 5.5/17in .
Or you can look like someone out of Stone and run your 140, I ran a 160 on my std slabby rim and it handled ok. but a new wheel is the go.
No 200 just a 180 other wise youll look like an American and we dont want that.

Oh there's rules I have to follow to not conform ?

It seems that way. Quite sad really.

That is unless you wish to be an non-conforming nonconformist. It doesn't make you very popular though...;)

Late model wheels are the go camlark with choices from a 4.5 - 5.5 inch rim and 160-180 tyre
85 slabby's came with a 3.0" - 3.5" rear, best fit for handling is a 140 on these original rims and anything larger will make the back end feel unstable.

I haven't explored the later model swing arm idea, however I'd imagine there would be further engineering required then simply fitting the swing arm and 200 rear tyre to make things fit such as the rear set and sub frame clearances.

For a good all round rear wheel, something like a 4.5" or 5.0" will give the bike looks and handling, I'm not convinced that a huge arse rear tyre won't stress the frame out and cause high speed wobbles, especially in fast corners.

Since early GSXR frames were made out of a spaghetti/aluminium alloy any modern rubber will tie the frame in knots....
Look for a 4.5 inch rear (bit thin on the ground) get the following:
1. A wheel (well derrr)
2. Sprocket carrier
3. 240mm disc
4. caliper hanger to suit the disc (a 220mm disc will cause the caliper to rub on the hub)
5. ALL spacers from the wheel
6. For crying out loud replace the bearings

Remove existing wheel and spacers
Install new wheel.....you may want to put a tyre on the wheel but thats up to you

170mm up will require modding the torque arm

thanks for the help, especially in the art of non conformity!
i guess a 200 rear is over the top (just a tad). i had a 190 on my TL and it looked the shit and handled as well as i ride (insert TL bad handling or rotary damper joke here). so i was chasing the same fat rear end look.
and yes i thought it was a fighter thing

when fitting a bigger wheel and tyre combo be careful to check sprocket alignment.i did a lot of fucking around to get a 6" rim and 190 tyre on my 1100L frame and used a 92 750 swingarm.and big looks the shit.first comment people make about my bike is get fucked look at the size of that fucken tyre[:0]devo has a 5.5" rim for sale at the moment

I have a K7 1000 17x6.0 Rim fitted into my EF, with a 200 tyre, with a little jiggery pokery!! ;)

Im assuming that the dimensions of an EF swinging arm will be something close to an early Gixxer?
