get a breathable fuel cap and then you can rip the hose out and plug the hole..

It's really a breather hose thingy. I think the hose is there to vent the petrol fumes away from your face.

The same thing on dirt bike fuel tanks. You forget it's there after 1 ride.

I took mine off and got a Z-9 fuel fliter and opened it up to get the fliter out and glued a rubber grommet in the base then stuck it on the fitting in the tank .... was all good till i lost it down the island on the way into town .. This conversion adds about 5 Hp..

You could always just put a gas pilot light near the outlet so if any fumes did escape you could burn them off before they blew into your face.

Nah.... I didnt like the hose out of that breather point so I bought a dirt bike breather nib from shop to replace it...

Kinda dresses it up instead of the hose being tucked away into steering stem.
