Nitric will strip chrome but not touch alloy. Chrome strip is mainly sodium hydroxide in reverse etch polarity (job is anode, carbon for anodes) about 8-12 volts 30 odd amps is enough Chrome plating is chromic acid , sulphuric acid and a bit of anti pit.(job is cathode, lead is anode) usually under 6 volts and current can range anywhere up to a couple of hundred amps.
Just remember nitric wont hurt pure alloy, but some cast alloys have impurities in em. if you can sand thru the chrome, you will probably have nickel under that and copper under that, nitric will take em all off no worries at all.

Not many ways to apply chrome to aloy, Alumon-en,copper flash , maybe a buildup, bit o nickel and a chrome top. Nickel solution tastes the nicest by the way.
