For the last few months Tan has been intimating she wants a bike but isnt sure what she wants(roadbike/trailbike)and quizzes me regularly as to what she should look for. Obviously I recommend a 250 that we can streetfighter or modify in some way because stock bikes suck arse and fairings cover up all the cool bits that make motorcycles so much fun.
So, the other day she tells me she has a ride on lawnmower that need to be pimped and i ask what else she has in her shed.. "oh some old rusty bikes n shit.."
So, after thorough investigation i dug this out, its the 1978 honda CM 185. She also has someother 70's trailbike ill get to eventually but for now my intrest is in this.

Yes it looks fucked, but nothing is beyond repair so my question is, what do you guys and gals know about these monsters (claimed 10 Hp) and is it worth the fucking around?

Oh I was thinking of turning it into a fuck off mean cafe racer because Tan is short, thin and weighs nothing so if i can push that 10 out to 15 hp whilst reducing the original weight it should be enough for her first bike yeah??

Man I'm thinking GB400 donk with flat straight bars the upholstered dual seat ala cafe racer style and giddy up.

That with a lick of paint etc and you'll have a beautiful head turning piece of machinery which will look awesome, turn heads and go more than adequately for a beginner rider.

I was thinking more original motor (tweaked), single seater "ala cafe racer" and down turned bars..

To elaborate, I was thinking something long these lines, (not that it really matters what I think anyway it's up to you and your Mrs!) but the GB400TT came out with the style of seat you're thinking of running so that would suit your requirements. There's a shot of one on bikepics.com in blue complete with the raised seat back. And yep they look porn mate. I agree with the sentiment of there should be more of it...

I'd go single seat. Looks way cooler, and it's not as though you're going to be doing a whole lot of pillioning on the thing is it?

I like that cafe racer style too. The standard tank on the shed beastie is very nice. They don't make them like that anymore.
