It only took about 50 minutes per side to do, and all the tools I needed was a drill with a 5mm and 6mm HHS bit. Hacksaw and blades. Stanley Knife. Pot rivet gun and 4.8mm rivets. and a roll of Duct tape. Oh and a bit of protection.....

Have a go, its quite an easy job to do and the guy that supplies the baffels told me he sends them to Oz. Look in my posts on this thread to find the link to him.

Much cheaper option than buying race cans.

Good luck and I hope you enjoyed the conversion.

Make sure you smash out the cat in the y pipe. Big (old) screwdriver does the job. Punch oround the outside right through and it falls out. Then you will see how choked it is standard. I will definitely get a kit for my exhaust.

CBRRRT

Yes mate I did get it from ebay, the guy told me on the phone he sends quite a lot to Oz.

I brought a Y connector from another guy on ebay and he removed the CAT for me, and is sending me the bend from an old set of down tubes to make the connection to my Blade zorst a bit easier.

Thanks Lads, just need the socket for my swing arm changeover now. Its really starting to bug me because I cant do anything about the zorst link pipe untill I see how much room I have, and the angles to run the pipe. I found a guy on ebay that can do me a socket for around $40.00 so just waiting for it to arrive.

Did a bit to my tank on Sunday. Sanded off the Honda decals, and took it back to the metal. I like the new enamel round badges on the 08 blade, so I'm thinking of cutting two round steel rings about 4mm thick from a steel heating pipe, and having them welded to each side of my tank and then filling around them so the badges have a frenched in look about them. I went to my local honda dealer and the things are going to set me back about $120.00 for two little bits of plastic. Anyone know of a Asian web site that does copies for half the price?

Undo the castle nut and remove it from the swinging arm spindle. then as in this photo use a normal 27mm socket to undo the hex nut on the other side.

Reinstall the shock and the linkage, but leave the top bolt of the shock untill last. Tighten up all the bolts that go through the bottom of the shock linkage, then gently lift, or lower the swing arm to locate the bolt through the top of the shock.

I fucked about for ages trying to line up the bottom bolts, the penny droped, and it went straight in.

Drrrrrrrr!!

CBRRRT
11-10-2008, 07:45 AM
Once the top of the shock is dun up you can de-prop-ulate the back of the swing arm.

Thanks matey, I agree with you and it gives you loads of room to get the zorsty bits to link up between the swing arm and the rear sets.

I'm gonna be doing a bit of fiddly stuff over the next week or so, as I want to rebuild the rear break caliper and make sure it is all up to the job.

I sanded of the decals from the tank, a real pig to do as they were under the laq... luaq... lack... clear coat. I want to french in the 2008 tank badges so I have to get someone to do a bit of welding done on that. But for now I have just given it a coat of acid etch primer.

To be honest I'm not to sure about the swing arm thing with regards to what year it can be done to. What year is your Blade '2ndclasscitizen' let me know and I'll ask about my end.

Not far from where I live there is a nut house with a high fence all round it. I was walking past when I heard all the nutters on the other side of the fence all shouting 13, 13, 13, 13...... I could'nt see over the fence because it was too high, but I did see a small hole in it and decided to have a little peep and see what was going on.

I put my eye up to the hole and one of the fucking nutters poked me in the eye with a stick.

All the nutters then started shouting 14, 14, 14........

You wouldnt believe what a fussy fucker I am mate, and I wouldnt let something like that slip past, I think its because the tank is on the piss matey and not bolted into position. I checked and double checked both sides berore fixing. I used the section of steel pipe with thread in the outside so the filler could get a grip, and made sure I went back to metal on the tank so the filler got a good key there too. It did worry me at first the steel rings might not hold but after thinking about it I couldnt see where they could go. Time will tell. Old Pomm black and white what? comedy? lol, :D do you think its starting to look a bit like a clowns car then matey [:o)].

I might fuck about a bit but I think its important to be able to laugh at your self mate, I have that spelling disorder Dyx...Dis...dix Oh you know the one I'm on about (If I could spell it I wouldnt have it :D lol) and some times my spelling gets a bit fruity, but so what mate, at least I'm not black.

I'm gonna get Daytona Paints in Colchester to do my paint for me, they quoted me 650 quid, and I quite like the idea of a deep burgundy or the burnt orange on the Ford Focus ST, or perhaps the burgundy with an off set stripe from front to back in the orange. I agree about the get it right thing mate, I was a joiner for 22 years so It taught me to measure twice cut once. That said its all a bit of a learning curve at the moment and as you probably guessed I don’t take myself to seriously. It’s supposed to be fun after all, and as you say mate, I only need to please myself.

I worked in Germany for four years and although my German is not that bad, I do find even though when you talk to a German he or she my reply in broken English, they get a bit critical when you don’t speak grammatically correct in their language. I suppose they 'think' they speak perfect English, and you should speak perfect German, hmmmmmm!

They are a clever bunch of fuckers on here, but I think after all we have done for them, i.e. gave them a whole country, although looking back it was a bit of a mistake. (We should have left them here and fucked of to Oz our selves) Anyway I digress, after giving them a country out of the goodness of our harts, they produce people like Troy Bayliss and Casey Stoner to beat us at a sport we invented in the first place.

Fucking ungrateful if you ask me, and a bit rude!

Anyway, as you probbably guessed by now I cant spell to save my life and I aint no mechanic.

Everthing I do to my bike is researched or trial and error.

My wheel is in being powder coated at the moment and as you know I have posted a couple of questions about tyres.

Basicly I know fuck all about them, so I went on the net to try and find out what all the markings on the side of the tyre mean, and if you need to know all that stuff, or if its just a load of old bollocks put there by the tyre manufacturer to impress fuck wits like me.

Turns out its all there for a reason. Who Knew???

So what does it all mean. Well this is what I found on the Michelin site.

Michelin: manufacturer's name
Pilot Road: commercial name
Made in France: country of manufacture
180: tyre cross-section in millimeters (WHY THE FUCK IS THIS IN mm)
55: ratio of sidewall height to tyre width
Z: speed rating, in this case > 240 km/h
R: radial construction
17: bead seat diameter, in inches (AND THIS IS IN INCHES)
Tubeless: no inner tube should be used
Radial: type of construction
Rear: rear tyre
=>: direction of rotation when properly mounted

"Yeah well I fuckin knew all that ditn I"

DID YOU LADIES! DID YOU?

For more info you already knew follow the link below, and for us that didnt know it takes us just one step closer to being "A right fucking know it all"

Something's got to be done about that gap. Anyone got any ideas. I thought about getting a carbon tank protector from an R1 and scribing it to fit the fireblade tank at the edges but still maintaining the curve of the inside on the R1 seat.

Would that work?

Have you done this before, and how did you solve the problem.

Found a seat pod on ebay. They are about £120.00 new and around £80.00 on ebay, but because this one was damaged I got it for £26.00. With a little bit of work I can get it good as new, and the whole bike is going to be painted anyway so all is good in Hollywood.

I wont bore you all with a bit of plastic welding and filling so I'll stick some photos on when its done.

I'm quite pleased the way the R1 seat pad follows the line of the Fireblade petrol tank. The two lines on top of the seat sweep in and almost perfectly meet up with the two lines that rise up the back of the tank.

The look like they were ment to be, I like stuff like that.

Don't want it to look like its been cobbled together matey. It fits, or it dont.

Pull the skin off - fibreglass the bit in between - refoam it and recover it - like you said anything else will just look cobbled together. Not that hard - you've managed a sssa conversion.

Otherwise I reckon leave the room for a seat belt buckle so you can strap yourself into the bike. You could start a trend ;) BMW might buy the rights off you...

LOL :D that might work matey, and I would have never thought of moding the seat, thats a fuckin good idea. I like it!! and I'm gonna do it!! [^]

Thanks Pete.

And I think the seat belt is a cracking idea also considering my record at Snetterton. 1 Track day = 1 crash [B)]

I still have the CBR seat I think I might hack it up and see if I can plastic weld the exact profile to my R1 seat unit.

Got something to do at the weekend now Matey Boy. Thanks!

This has been one long week, I should have got my rear wheel back from powdercoat today, but the guy is saying might be Monday or Tuesday.

I'm not very good at being patient. :([V]:(

How the fark could you not be , so what did you end up with the seat mate , thicker foam around the front is the go , I had to make all new sub mounts for mine to close the gap I'm like you , it has to look finished or its not staying;)

I got caught up in a load of family stuff last weekend so never had a chance to do the seat pad, but this weekend I'm having the cover off, building up the substructure, then adding more foam. I'm just a little worried it might look like a D.I.Y. special. If it does then its going off to someone that can do a pro job.
