They do these conversions on Fireblade 1000s so they should be OK on our old sheds, even though it means that the rollers are 25% thinner than standard..

Couldn't say blaa, I don't know the brand or anything... S'not that expensive but then, having the fucker let go and eat a hole in your casings would be. I'd be tempted to give it a go though coz I don't think that the risk is that high. Keep an eye on it, keep it lubed and adjusted, usual shit...

the hub face height from the floor is 74mm (184 - 110mm)
Existing offset is 92 - 74mm = 18mm
New offset is 40mm
Spacer requirement = 40 -18 = 22mm
Original spacer to centre VFR wheel = 8mm
New spacer = 22 + 8mm = 30mm

Jon you are a genius.....

Only health warning is that frames vary a bit so the 8mm might be different on your bike. Shouldn't be too far out though.

Did you say I'm a genious mate??? I just did what you said, lol, I only wanted you to check my sums, ha ha.

Griff, do you mean 35mm over all mate coz 350mm is fuckin massive mate. What you go on there fella, a tractot wheel!!!??? [?]

I know when you are looking for something like a SSSA mate its quite important to get the best you can. But with body parts like fenders, huggers, and stuff like that, if you buy dammaged and repair it your self you can get bits loads cheaper.

The seat pod on my R1 tail is £130.00 a good used one on ebay goes for around the £80.00 mark. I got one with a chunk out the side for £30.00 inc p&p. Well I figured I'm gonna paint it anyway so what the hell!

There are bargains out there mate, you just have to look at what other people think is to much bother to fix.

HOW TO FIND AN OFF SET

OK, I know the wheel offset thingy got a bit confusing there for a while, but this should help to clear things up a bit. With TMP's help this is what I came up with.

Step 1.

Lay the wheel on a flat surface hub face side up. It dont have to be level, just flat

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256535556.jpg

Step 2.

Place a straight edge across the top of the tyre. This is so you can measure from the floor to the underside of the straight edge, and give you an overall width. Now depending what size tyre you use on your wheel will depend on averall width so dont go with my measurement unless you are using a 180 tyre.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256540281.jpg

Step 3.

I got 184mm, Make a note of the size on a bit of paper. I found it easier to make a sketch of the tyre and add a centre line, then add the dims to it.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256503043.jpg

Step 4.

Now measure down to the hub face, mine was 110mm. Now add that to the sketch.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256528589.jpg

This sketch should make things a bit easier

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256526100.jpg

So

Overall wheel width = 184mm (With the tyre on)
and = 92mm to the centre of the VFR wheel
I then laid the straight edge on top of the tyre and measured down to the hub face = 110mm
so that is 18mm past centre. This 18mm is my existing offset,
that being the case then new wheel offset = 40mm - 18mm = 22mm + 8mm spacer to centre VFR wheel, so new spacer is 30mm

Does that make things a bit easier??

Ok so this is my thoughs,

1.The reason i use a spcer is to adjust the face hub to the center of the wheel??

2. I need another 8 mm beacuse? beacuse the sssa isnnt centerd in the frame? and since frames are different from fram to frame this 8 mm can be a little "ish"?

1. Correct

2. Correct, but TMP is never far out so I guess you can go with the 8mm, I know I'm gonna matey. My spacer for a 40mm offset will be 22mm + TMP's 8mm, total 30mm :D

blaa
28-10-2009, 04:06 AM
Why will it be only 22? if the offset is 40?

CBRRRT
28-10-2009, 06:43 AM
I've bold fonted for you the points you need to look at blaa.

Overall wheel width = 184mm (With the tyre on)
and = 92mm to the centre of the VFR wheel
I then laid the straight edge on top of the tyre and measured down to the hub face = 110mm
so that is 18mm past centre. This 18mm is my existing offset,
that being the case then new wheel offset = [u]40mm - 18mm = 22mm </u>+ [u]8mm spacer to centre VFR wheel in the frame </u>(Twomanyprojex advice), so new spacer is 30mm

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256766163.jpg

I know its a bit confusing mate, but once you get your head round it its a little easier to understand.

Does that help Buddy.

blaa
28-10-2009, 03:35 PM
SOrry dude my question was wrong pointed.

What im wondering is where do you get this 40mm from?
Is it the new wheels offset compared to the one you already got?

I have understod how to do it on my bike im done with that.

Hi blaa the offset is measured from the wheel centre line. The new wheel is offset 40mm from centre but the the old one was already offset 18mm so the difference that you need to make up with a spacer is only 22mm.

When I first fitted the SSSA vfr rear wheel ran 16mm out of line with the front wheel so I needed an 8mm spacer to centre it. Does this help?

Well allrighty then, I sent Griff an email a week or so ago and asked him about his car wheel conversion. He passed on a few little gems of information, one being how easy it is to remove the studs. I believe he said they were a piece of piss to change. [^]

Sooooooooooooo, I thought I would have a go.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257076133.jpg

I thought it might be a bit easier to do the job if I removed the sprocket first and got the chain right out of the way.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257058389.jpg

They are the little buggers I need to get to :(

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256984547.jpg

So after I got the sprocket off the next thing to do was undo that big nut. I dont have a socket that big so used an adjustable wrench.
Behind the nut is a washer that needs to be removed carefully with a flat screw driver. [8)]

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257060554.jpg

Once they are off the hub should pull off. [:p]

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256986500.jpg

With a soft mallet, tap out the hub from the splined side.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257020448.jpg

I used my Haines manuel, but now all you have to do is follow this, happy days!!! :D

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257078335.jpg

OK, in my socket set I have a bunch of sockets with 7/8" and 1 1/4" bollocks on them. I dont use them, I dont like them, and I dont fuckin understand them so any chance I get to abuse them, I do just that. Bunch of cunts!!!! :(

Anyway, I stuck one of the little bastards in my vice and tightend down on the little fucker. [xx(]

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257041886.jpg

I then placed my disc hub onto the vice with the wheel stud sat inside the socket. You know whats comming next dont ya!!?? [B)]

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1256981238.jpg

A couple of sharp taps and out-ski she come-ski

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257022314.jpg

Now up to now its only taken about half an hour, so not hard at all

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257013039.jpg

And there they all are, including that fuckin bastard cunt of a 7/8" socket, retarded twat!!!!!:(

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257055110.jpg

Now I have something I can go to my local car spairs shop with and ask for something a bit longer, Ow er Missus!! [:p]

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257073004.jpg

Hub is 8mm + 30mm spacer + new wheel, so I'm gonna need something to cope with all that

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257003662.jpg

I'm gonna do it with two spacers, 1 x 20mm and 1 x 10mm, coz I'm not a clever git with a lathe that can make one. When the 20mm spacer arrived it was just a nats cock to small, so I went round the inside with a round back file and took off a very small amount.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257050739.jpg

Then it popped straight on, and was a nice snug fit.

Well thats just about where I am at the moment, and like lots of the other jobs I have done so far, finding the information "How to do it" was the hardest part. The job so far has taken only about 45 minutes, and its just a reassembley job now. When my 10mm spacer, studs and car wheel all arrive I will continue with the job and as usual bore the crap out of you all with more photos of spanners and stuff. :D

To polish the sprocket hub I used 120 grit wet and dry paper, then once the surface was flattened off I used 1500 wet and dry. I just kept rubbing away with that untill it was really smooth, then went over it with autosol. Came up quite well didnt it! Hello buddy!

Today i have hacked and slashed out the last bearing out of the wheel hub.

So now the swingarm and the hub are bearing free.

Casualties: 2 screwdrivers
1 socket
2 grinding "wheels" for the drill
1 hole in the sssa wich need to be fixed
1 realationship (Our kitchen hasent been "to nice" she says)

Picture coming later, tho no action pictures.
I'l have to start a own thread about this shit.

Shopping list to complete the sssa conversion:

1. All bearings for sssa and hub.
2. Sprocket set and chain
3. Powdercoating the wheel
4. Getting a sweet as spacer from Jon :)
5. New wheel studs
6. wheel nuts (beascause i didnt get any with the wheel)
7. Brake pads
8. Paint for the brake caliper.

Think that would be all :D

have a fightning night!

Right then, lets see if I can remember how this pile of nuts and bolts went together

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257976001.jpg

peice of piss, there was fuck all to taking it to bits, so putting it all back was a doddle.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1258005509.jpg

The studs I used were 63mm long Ford studs (M12/1.5) The M12 is the size of the bolt and the 1.5 is the pitch of the thread. They have a 13.1mm spigot, thats the bit that bites into the hub. You'll need to drill out your hub to fit them, but if a numb nut like me can do it, then so can you.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1258065922.jpg

I put the 20mm spacer on first as the back has hollow sections that sat nice over the disc rotor nuts. Then the 10mm spacer went on next.

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1258067439.jpg

Loads of room for the wheel, and plenty of thread fo my funkey wheel nuts, MAN!

http://www.asfphotos.com/upload/1257983009.jpg

Just need to get some rubber on my Inovit concept wheel and bung it on.

hi johnathan, beautiful wheel mate, word of advice for you. When u are putting on the bike tire to the car wheel, get the tire man to very slowly run the machine over the tire when forcing it onto the wheel wall,as you are stretching a tire to fit a wheel that is 2 inches wider than original, and could easily rip the side wall. Also lube the shit out of the tire, and use loads of wd 40,then you will need to put nearly 100 pounds of pressure in the tire to get it to break the bead..Just passing on what myself and fighter mc did...I had to put the 100 pounds of pressure into it myself, brown trouser moment.ha ha..........can't wait for the photos.......

CBRRRT
15-11-2009, 07:43 PM
Top tip there Buddy, many thanks for that. The company that sold me the wheel dropped a bollock mate and gave me an 18" wheel, but they have got another one in now and I'm gonna collect it tomorrow morning. Do you think I'm gonna have a problem convincing my tyre fitter to put in 100 pounds of pressure mate "GULP" or should I ask him to let me do it myself [B)].

Glad you're feeling better now Griff :D

17-11-2009, 06:09 AM
Oki-doki, I went down to Alloywheels.com today and collected my 17" wheel. If you live in the UK and you want to use them just follow the link below........... Thank fuck you dont have to type that lot, er!! ;)

http://www.alloywheels.com/search.asp?strKeywords=4x100 et35,4x100 et37,4x100 et38,4x100 et40,4x100 et42,4x100 et45,4x100/56-1 et45&strSize=17"&strSort=Low&numRecordPosition=71&strSearchCriteria=any&PT_ID=all&Make=Honda&Model=Civic 00&gt;

Anyway the link above is for Honda civic 2000 wheels and they have just the right stud pattern, and just look how many pages there are of them. There has to be something in there that you'll like, I know it took me fuckin ages to choose. [:p]
