Fuck me, i'm excited,.Got the swinger all bolted up tonight and raised the rear about 3 inches using the standard RGV linkages but still got the same wheel base.pay no attention to the seat unit as its yet to undergo major choppin. Then its off to the paint shop for some extra bling and off to the powdercoaters for some extra black.Another 763 beers and a fresh engine then i rekon she'll be ready for showtime.:D:D:D;)[:X]

Looking good Davo, keep polishing:D
Links look XLENT

Rich
11-05-2006, 03:59 AM
Davo, I ain't one to rain on a party but coming from an aviation trade background I know a bit about stresses and stress points in metal fabrication. The links with the 'S' in them I'd personally give a miss. Realistically you'd need to radius out those fine inner points in the 'S' to eliminate or at least reduce the 'stress raisers'.

Hard to explain in words, a picture would be better if you don't understand.

The bottom line is its probable the 'S' links will fail. If so what would be the consequences ??

Cheers Rich

EXBEN
11-05-2006, 08:55 AM
Davo, I agree with Rich, it looks a bit risky to me. The "dogbones" are one of the most stressed parts of the suspension, just ask Mundy. One option may be to double up the linkages with one of the straight ones behind each of the S's, is this what you were planing?

11-05-2006, 10:30 AM
moove the whole thing foward so it takes up the gap to the seat tiger;)& mate can you ssms me ya addres so i can send up those Yoshi cams & pistons[^]

crazymofo
11-05-2006, 04:21 PM
yeah i cut them ones with the "s" logo, purely as a show ones. hence why there is other dogbones in the box!

still.. i reckon they can be modified to suit the application a backing brace welded to the bones could be a start, or as others have said, doubling up the link would be an alternative.

one obsevation tho, is that on my gsxf, the dog bones are of 3mm mild steel (factory ones) these items davo has are 6mm items.

the structural strength mainly comes from the swingarm its self. the dog bone simply activates and dictates the shock movement, the main reason for the linkage suspension is that there is less shock shaft travel required per given wheel movent, thus making doe a shorter lighter shock asorber, compared to a cantilever style suspension.

they arent really subject to the side to side loadings as the swing arm is.

still, it wouldnt hurt bracing them up a little. send em back down davo, and i can do that for ya if you like.

cheers.joe.

ps..davo, your very welcome. anything else you'd like done?

Can't wait to see pics of it altogether.

11-05-2006, 08:18 PM
settle down punters,i wont be using the S bones. they were simply made for demonstration purposes.I know all about strength in dogbones ,thanks anyway Rich n Ben,they will only be used for show days such as Goldcoast bike week(if at all). Thanks again Joe,you are the man.hope ya dont mind mate but i will be passing a spare set on to another ASF member down south(who wishes to remain annonymous at this stage, but the bike will be a fukin worthy stunner when finished).

ps Joe,i've just scored a stainless go-kart frame that is my next project.Lookin at puttin some serious HP engine in it,but i'll need a few things lasered up.Gunna be 1 sic toy and i'll need someone crazy to help me run it in.Rekon its got your name engraved on the side.

cor Davo, talk about progress! ver' noice.
is that a blown fork seal i see before me?

22-05-2006, 04:42 PM
yes miss Bear,i have new 1's sitting here in front of me but it actually handles better with oil in 1 leg only.
Rossco... that is a 5.5 wheel in there, has about 5mm clearance either side with a sports tyre on.dont think a low profile super sport will fit tho. I had to pump the arm out 10mm to use the standard gsxr wheel and caliper.I believe the RGV runs a 5.5 rim but uses a different caliper.
as for the wheel colour,im thinking pearl black with the pearl blue clear coat.Im over [polishing and dont want too much bling but im open to suggestions on colours coz i wanna get it right 1st time.
Any idea's people?????

Gix11
22-05-2006, 09:46 PM
I'd avoid going anything similar to the body panels mate. It will all look abit plastic hyundai. I reckon just black would look shit hot as it will pull out the black in the bars and swingarm and lower the whole thing. Alternatively,k why not do something wacked like keep the outer rims that gold colour and do the centre rim and spokes black? I kinda like that gold with the new blue and apinting the centres black will make the rims look wider. Just an idea.

pt
22-05-2006, 10:58 PM
i reckon without an exhaust pipe it'll turn heads... and blow eardrums[^][:o)]

looks absolutely wicked and i'm with gix11 go satin black (matt is too bloody hard to keep clean) on the wheels.

Gix11
23-05-2006, 01:20 PM
I rode around with the pipe like that for a whole day. Supercharger had to drop back and my ears were getting a pounding. It was the same day we chopped the can that was to go on and we based the sound on what we had heard that day. A year and a bit down the road and I realise that must have been fuckin' loud as my can is hardly the quietest I've ever heard.

23-05-2006, 03:38 PM
:(F^$%^k you Davo! NO more special parts for you tiger[}:)]

23-05-2006, 08:40 PM
hahaha. gota keep you on ya toes some how mate.i didnt choose the paint colour,it was chosen by the bloke painting it.so far this latest build has cost me $242 in total(all parts and paint).gota be happy with that. box didnt arrive today mate but i didnt get time to go to the post office either.
wheels and rear sets are under primer...stay tuned.

23-05-2006, 08:48 PM
lookin unreal davo. super hot mate. is the ballsack dent in the tank standard?

RR-711
23-05-2006, 09:40 PM
Sorry Davo my mistake thought the K came with a 4.5 or a 5 inch rear n was just goin by the coluor thinkin it was the standard one. My 1990 L swing arm only has 3 or 4 mil either side with a 180 pilot sport. Close to chain n brake bar but does`nt touch it. I reckon gloss black centres n polished outers, i know every one does it but thats coz it looks fuckin horn n will match the swing arm spot on

23-05-2006, 10:04 PM
the "everyone does it" factor is what im tryin to avoid.Otherwise the streetfighter will become a production bike eventually.Gunna start with a base coat of black and go from there.
drew that dent was there when i bought it from a wrecker a few years back, not sure if its standard coz my old tank was worse.but the new r6 seat covers it

dRRew
23-05-2006, 10:17 PM

Looks good Davo, I was right in say'n it wouldn't fit in my tail unit, as mine doesn't have the flat piece at the bottom like yours does. My tail unit is open at the bottom.

27-05-2006, 06:39 PM
took me hours to get the template right for that light Ice.Ive fitted it flush with the undertray and my numberplate will be covering it slightly.gota make a lexan cover for it as it will be coppin a few rocks.Mundy sent me another light which would have fit the top easier but the R1 light was just to good not to fit.My tail is off 00 R1 raceglass so thats why it has the flat undertray.

Yeah gotta agree there Cammy. Down here we pay road tax to ride around on potholes.

This is the first time i've had a good look at your build, Davo. Some great shots of it so far. Anything new happening?
