Gearbox Change?

Hey All,

My 2nd gear is gone on my 93 GSXR 1100. Would a 95 GSXR 1100 gearbox fit? Is there any other gearboxes that would fit with little modification? Would like to change it from 5 speed to 6, is it possible? Any helpful hints would be WIKED....

all water cooled gix 1100 are the same motor.

the 750 box will fit but takes a bit of rooting around you have to have shafts drilled spacers made and adapt clutches.

you have heaps of torque from the 1100 so an extra gear would just mean you will be changing gears more often. i believe it is not at all necessary unless you are racing. even then i would question its benefit. with over 100hp on tap from 7000rpms it is diffucult to not be int the right gear.

you will have to split the motor to do the repair and you will have to replace the geat that 2nd gear dog meshes with.

best case is 2 gears and a seal and gaskets. not a hard job really just time consuming. get a manual and follow the dissamebly and assembly instructions and you cant go wrong

If your in there change the shift drum and forks, wise move ,Iv been there.

good point mate. if its jumping out of gear the forks are most likely bent.

And check to see if your dogs need to be recut too.
