I'm getting a custom can fabbed up for my 12r project so just trying a few designs. This is my latest - I'm not sure if I got it right yet tho. The can is going to be a stubby that just sits up near the swing arm - I'm ditching the under seat exhaust. What do you reckon?

Yeh it looks alriiiight maaate! :D
You could wild with your imagination on the side of it. That's basically a blank canvas waiting for some craftwork/artwork.

can you do a "cut and paste" and show is how it'll sit on the bike?

whats the overall dimensions, im thinking pretty tiny if your headers are about 50mm!! :D

Sorry my opinion is it looks cheap and tacky.:(Keep working on it

As usual though my opinion means nothing its your bike:D

Whilst I like the idea I don't really like this design, although as fimp says it's hard to guage the size sitting by itself. Might look good if it's as small as it seems in relation to the pipe from the headers.

If there is one thing I have learnt from hanging out on this forum it is that everyone has there own taste and if YOU like it, it shouldnt matter what everyone else thinks. I like it by the way...only a pity it's going on something green[:p](But that doesn't matter, right!)

Not my taste but everyones different, also if your chasing big numbers be careful of any flow restrictions.

Thanks for the feed back folks - the can is about a foot long - so yeah pretty tiny. I've come up with a similar but better idea - this one is far too boxy. The theme for my bike is a factory look - if the big K went and made a challenger to the B-King what they would try and style it - when you say cheap and tacky i'll take that as a complement that I'm on the right track ;) - I'll have another crack and show you folks.

who is doing the fab? how much does it set you back for something like this if you dont mind me asking?

Still not sure of total cost at this stage - I'm getting the components laser cut through Acute Laser in brissy - I'd be surprised it total material cost was over 150-200 bucks - thats the skins (internal baffle and out sideskin) and internal dividor plates. I'll be doing a bit of the work myself, but i have a mate who's pretty trick with a welder so I'm planning on getting it done for under $300ish... Might blow out a little bit more once I get it painted/polished etc.

Thats the way cop it on the chin in true streetfighter fashion:D

Mate i meant it looks a little done before if you know what i mean if your going for a custom job but still going for that factory look maybe go for something a little different take venom as an example basic idea maximum results thats what you should be going for if that makes any sense.;)

Be orig just like your bike is and keep the theme throughout i say[:X]

I rekon your onto something there, it needs more curves though, it looks ugly and boxy, maybe sharpen top tip to a single point(oval muffler)?

It's hard to judge because a lot depends on what it sits on/against/near and the size of it on the bike.
Good 1st draft, so to speak. You'll be very lucky to nail it right the first time. Even after all the fab, when you mount it on the bike, chances are you'll want to change it slightly.

What software are you using for the 3D work?

yeh mate i reckon it looks gr8

I like it Pete, but what about tapering the leading edge and making the 2 small tailpipes one large oval/parallelogram style outlet, you can keep the twin outlets inside that.

Where you buying the baffles mate?

zx12argh
05-09-2008, 10:49 PM
erm haven't the baffles sourced yet - i was going to get in touch with an exhaust mob. Have you got any thoughts?
I've come up with a better design - a lot more oval - less symmetrical and boxy... No time to work on it and finish tho - heading off too Toowoomba for the weekend for fathers day... bless em.

I use solidworks 08 for the modelling bear.

I think it looks fucking shit!!!!
Unless you get me to make it, then i reckon it'll look proper nice and everything!!
For the baffles you'll be best off using stuff called drilled tube, which is basically tube with hundreds of holes in, then baffle packing to the desired volume!!

Cheers'en:D:D

good idea to have another crack at that one.

thats what i did when i Re-build the exhaust on mine. the tube is cheap as fuck. the exhaust cost me $60 all up and wouldve been alot cheaper if i couldve been bothered doing the measuring and welding instead of getting the exhaust place to.

but note i used a 1 5/8core and packed the cunt out of it and its still mind fuckingkly loud...it set off a car alarm in the city on thursday night :D

Sooo, Just right then, Slick :)

I don't mind the design but I think the twin outlets could be bigger and a little closer together for better symmetry.
I also think you need to be carefull with the square shape, if the bike is all curvy or has lots of triangular shapes to it, then the boxy shape may look out of place.
Looking forward to your new design.

patient grasshopper... If i can sneak it in during work today I'll try - tho pretty busy doing a lot of shit for china. I'll do it tonight otherwise. Thanks for the input guys...
Chop - i may have to talk to you about welding this puppy up. My cheap mate is is looking less and less reliable - he still hasn't finished my swing arm yet...

Righto - excuse the crap shots. My work pc is shit compared to my home one. The inlet and out let are both 75mm - thats the diameter of the exhuast dump. tho whole assembly is only about 350mm long so its pretty tiny... Getting it quiet will be the challenge I figure. - I'll probably delete these images when I get home and do some proper rendered shots.

Well Rod if you know someone who is a good stainless welder on the cheap then maybe we can do a deal. The main skin is a simple folded piece - no shaping required - and i've got the whole lot from end caps to body in flat profile ready for laser cutting. When i was happy with the design I was going to design a similar simple interal with some kind of baffling and just pack the rest either with stainless swarf (which I can get by the kilo for free from work) or stainless wool.

11-09-2008, 03:39 PM
well, the SV had a 330mm long cut-down one that was straight-thru
but it had small headers and was only 650cc

u can always use a little thing bunged in the end around town ;)

Thanks mate - the first one was actually my first crack at that modeling technique. Getting the hang of it now. I'm actually toying with the idea of having an under bike collector/muffler with a pair of these dumps coming out of the box... Should be enough sound reduction without killing power too much hopefully.

that ones good pete, stainless wool will be heaps lighter then the swarf also.
