Repairing scratched Carbon Fibre

I just picked up some c/f panels that have been damaged, with several harsh scratches that need removing.
What would be the best way to sand them out and repair the clear coat, plus how do I work out what type of clear coat has been used?

So long as the Carbon hasn't been damages they can be sanded and 2K cleared.
Then sanded and build the clear up til it's all level.

Unfortunately down in Vic freezing my nuts off.
Have tried 1200 wet and dry followed by rubbing compound with the weave across the scratchs but that didn't work, it looks like I need a heavier grit.
Should I go actoss the scratch or along it?

If the scratches go down to the weave you wont be able to repair it. If its just in the clear gelcoat and not too deep you may be able to sand it out if your very careful. Id start with 400 grit wet and dry till the scratches are gone, then 800, then 1200, then 1500 then buff it. If you sand through the clear gel and scuff the carbon it will always look crap even if you re clear it.

Looks like they don't have a clear coat on them ( are they Ducati parts? ) I'd give them a light sand all over then flood them with 2k clear & I mean flood them,if they haven't been previously clearcoated( look close at them is there tiny pin holes all over them? ) try & fill all the pin holes with the clear, don't worry about runs ( I usually get it so it's dripping off). Let it dry then sand it back down to get rid of the runs, you may take most of the clear off again but you should end up with a smooth pin hole & scratch free surface, then give it a couple of normal gloss coats. Should be sweet then.

They are Triumph side covers Exben, and after a closer look they may not have been coated, it may be just the finish they have after coming from the mold, more of a satin than a gloss.

If you want them 2K clearing give Gibbo a shout, he looks gay as fuck and walks like he's got a bit left in but he's ok really so don't let that put you off, and he's in Vic.........................the state not the bloke!!! ;)
