I have a 2001 model R1 and am lookign for a set of gauges. Not having much luck finding any but did find a set of 2002 gauges on ebay

Does anyone know if thy would work? Even if the bracket would need slight mods done???

Part number is different as the gauges have changed on these models

Depending on the price of it, what about using an Acewell unit from Ben ?

Just had a look at the wiring diagrams I have for both models, and it seems to me that they are different enough to not be interchangeable (though you might be able to do it if you make some changes to the harness). I could scan the diagrams and shoot 'em to you if you wanted.

I'd use an acewell unit like I've got on the kwaka. I need it for the VIV inspection. Need to get it bog stock standard...

An acewell will be fine for VIV. Its legal and you keep the receipt.
I had Gpz clocks on my Xjr for the viv. No problems.
You don't need to rebuild it as factory to pass, just make sure its legal...full mudguards, quiet exhaust etc. Basically build it to pass a legitimate roadworthy test.
Remember the viv is making sure its not stolen/made up of stolen parts.
The roadworthy makes sure its safe to go back on the road.
If in doubt go see/phone 'em for guidelines.
