View Full Version : I wanna cut a Thunderace in half

I have a thunderace with no bodywork, and it just doesn't seem right to rebuild it to standard. So I'm thinking cut the subframe off and put an '01 R1 subframe on, chuck the swingarm to the shitter and put a triumph single sided unit on, maybe yzf750 front end with blue spots and a MT-01 headlight and a tiny little dash, I've got a bunch of 39mm flatslides that'll fit, maybe I can crowbar in a ramair system of a zx12r and a bucket load of happy gas. Oh yeah, and one of those louder than god motogp exhaust thingies.

Does my imagination need a serious bourbon injection, or am I on the path of the righteous?

Folks, I am open to your laughter, pity, encouragement, ideas, tips and anything else you care to mention.

You have truly found your calling mate...modifying a mighty Yamaha.
Ignor the non-believers that still worship at the altars of sukuki and krapasaki.

I thought we were friends russ - even if I had to lower my standards to a *cough* yamahardly rider.

I will worship at the Altar of Green till the day an old codger pulls out in front of me and takes me out.;)

Go for it mate, i have a 96 thunderace, ride it every day, very underrated bike. Havent fightered mine due to the crackdown on bikes in wa atm and i use it as a daily rider so shes bog stock aside from the roo racing slip on..[8D] Well that and i have enough other build to finish..
Funny you should mention it though i have a triumph sssa for it and was looking for an r1 rear end for when i replace it with another daily ride..

All brand bullshit aside(i have several of all the major jappers), i rekon your onto a good thing, go for it!

So Azrael, have you done any planning for that swingarm? Like what kind of butchery needs to be performed with the linkages, spacers at the pivot point, that type of stuff?

Hey Lucas, email me, might be able to help you out with some parts right now, depending on what you need.

Haha, I bought it on egay in the uk and a mate had to clean it to bring it over with allhis household shit and he went a bit overboard.
Looks pretty swampy death though, dont think ill bother painting it eh, just have to park the chunderace in a swamp for a while to match it..

Here is the collection of bits I have for the build so far, I'm thinking black, satin black and matt black........with some black highlights.

Oh, and before anyone asks, no I'm not using the RM80 tank, and yes you can fix anything with fencing wire, pliers and some ordinary household bleach.:D

Can anyone tell me how wide the triumph sssa is at the pivot point?

Also, does anyone know of a single-piece six piston caliper that will fit in place of the yamaha blue spots?
