Hi, my name is Mark, I have been riding bikes for years (nakeds, sportsbikes, cruisers, tourers - I have a GSXR1000 at the moment). I thought it is time for me to build a street fighter, I have admired them for years.
I have been looking in the auctions to find a good damaged bike to build a good streetfighter from. In the local auctions they have an 03 Honda CBR900RR, but I noticed it has a forced ram-air devise going from the front of the cowling to the air cleaner. Is this needed for the running of the bike? can I take it off? will it be a problem? If so what do I replace it with?

Not sure if you can be of help, but I would appreciate some help,

Thank you

(here is a pic of it)

Gday Mark,
I run one of these things as a trackbike. I find it can suffocate a tiny bit up top with the shrouds removed. But im talking 200 plus on a gusty island =) Anything up to that point is fine.
Heavy turbulance at the inlet is the only issue. The original setup isn't really a ram-air if you look closely, it picks up the cold air from the front, but is sheltered from a direct forward thrust of air. I'd say for a SF it would be no probs. Its a great bike.
Check out funkenfresh, i think it is? Has a very nice 954 that has been through a lot of stages. Worth a look for sure.

Thanks for that guys, it turnes out I missed the sale of that bike - it looks like it would have been a beauty. Ill read those threads though, the Fireblade will make a good streetfighter, I may still end up with one.
