I was checking out ebay USA for some retro trinkets to suit my Z9 when I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Parts-Accessories_Motorcycle-Parts-Accessories__kawasaki-z1-900-fuel-tank-cap-with-fuel-guage_W0QQitemZ190234396987QQddnZPartsQ20Q26Q20Acc essoriesQQadnZMotorcycleQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20Accessori esQQddiZ2811QQadiZ2863QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item1902 34396987&_trksid=p3756.m14.l1318 you would have to be very serious about your bike to spend this much on a fucking fuel tank cap!!

I have to say I do like the idea though. I don't think I could handle having another bike with no fuel gauge.

It replaces the standard fuel cap and the black cylinder is a float attached to a chain as it goes up/down with the fuel level the gauge reads towards full or empty. This is the first new one I've seen for sale the last good 2nd hand one spotted went for $175.

Ive got to of those things in the shed, problem is the plastic doesnt seem to be UV stable and they are now impossible to read, just like everyone Ive ever seen exept this one. Been meaning to get around to haveing new lenses made for a while now, anybody know where I can get it done?

Peter Boris repairs & reconditions them along with just about any sort of motorcycle instruments . With prices like these it might be worth getting him to recondition one for you . I sold a used one in good shape(had a scratch on the lense) about 4 years ago and was shocked when it got $340 on ebay. With only 4 hours to go and the bidding up to $787 I really wouldn;t be suprised if it went for over a grand.
