spotted a really nice looking streetfightered CBR (me thinks) on Elizabeth St Sydney yesterday (9/8) at about 1:30pm... just wondered if anyone on here owns it.
I'm new to streetfighters so the description may not be the best but it had a twin headlight setup, something similar to a trumpy.. all fairings removed, rear subframe removed, number plate attached to the back of the seat (or so it appeared as it passed).. It's the first time i've seen one on the road, and the overall stature of the fightered CBR looks tough as. Nice and low, very short and ever so tough. I wonder what it costs to do something like that...

The Blade fighter is goiung to cost you the price of the bike, handlebar conversion ($5-800), headlights/shell ($200-2000), plus any other bits yoou might want to add ie braided brake lines (~$250), front end upgrade ($500-2000), rear sets, new seat/tail unit, engine mods etc etc etc.
Streetfighters can cost whatever you want to spend / how much you want to do yourself. Exben (Extreme Creations, Sydney, worth talking to, especially if you want something spectacular) build bikes for customers for up to $30,000.
I'm fightering an old GPz900R which cost me $1000 to purchase, and I've sunk less than $2000 into it so far, I even made up my own twin headlight/shell for under $50 using spotties from supercheap, the front half of an old Kiwi helmet and home made brackets. (anyone interested in piccies?). BUT I haven't done any painting/bodywork mods yet. Made my own flat bar conversion kit, didn't seem to impress TurboKat on the run though, I think he called it something along the lines of 'Dodgy', cheeky prick :D.
I agree with you're opinion of the Blade fighters though, they do look tough.

I'm just dreaming at the moment.. I've just purchased a Z1000 which I know is not a real fighter, but it was a big step for me to go from a supersports > motard > z1000.. I'm kinda liking the naked thing now and the streetfighters look very nice.

And here's one from the front again. I cut the back half off (grinder of course), made up a mount which is bolted to the lower triple where the brake line junction uased to be. The back edge has an edging from Clark Rubber, which has a 10mm compression section to deal with the lumps/cables/lines etc. Still have to finish the paint and get some light tinting to cover the visor. The top edge is shaped to go around my temp guage pod.

I would never call anything you did "dodgy" Chalky ('cept maybe your riding style [:0]) I think it was more like " Questionable Engineering".
That thing's looking halfway decent now mate, the helmet front came out good but for fucks sake, put some tyres on it you maniac. :(
BTW, are you still planning to mod the tail like we discussed? I reckon it needs something there.

11-08-2006, 02:18 PM
Just about got the new motor sorted, so there's a good chance those tyres will disappear in a cloud of smoke in the next week[^].
ATM I'm just looking at smoothing off all the bumps and holes in the current tail unit, and jacking it right up with a new shock. I have a seat being recovered to look like a deep solo seat at the moment, so that will improve things a bit. Did like the look of that carbon fibre duck seat from a couple of days ago, reckon that would've matched the tank lines.
If I can find someone local to do it, I'm going to get the engine hydroblasted, should stand out like dogs balls then [:p]
Also got to look for an under brace for the swing arm.
The headlights are a no-name brand, but they're tiny and have 55W H3 bulbs in'em.

Let them know that there's a proper guest room here now, plus garage etc. Me-Li and I really enjoyed putting you guys up last time.

Hey chalky, you seeing ministry when they tour? And I'm not sure if i'm riding to the gp, cos i need to have surgery on my hand.
loving the bike, too.

12-08-2006, 08:44 AM
When are they touring Hooligan? definitely inerested. Last time I saw Ministry was the early 90's Big Day Out @ Moore Park.
Which hand have you hurt? And when is the GP? In fact now that I think about it, I don't think I have ever seen an entire PI GP.

chalky lookn the business now mate i like that helmet set up the first pic looks
like you in there with your glasses on.
do the acrilic clear with a bit of black tinter in it and just paint it slowly
on the inside of the viser until you get it the darkness you want wont chip or scratch
then either.

15-08-2006, 09:30 AM
Thanks Damo, I'll give it a go this week.

I'll use the air brush for thinner coats.

damo1
15-08-2006, 08:54 PM
you dont need to use the air brush just use a normal spray gun thin it about
50/50 and take your time light coats and let it dry in between coats for about
ten fifteen minuites it will give you less chance of getting runs.
And if you look at it and you think it needs a bit more here or there while your doing it
dont put more on just pick it up in the next coat slow and steady wins the race mate
good luck cant wait to see it.

oldskool
15-08-2006, 10:59 PM
Nice Helmoot a Vemar or Noland?

16-08-2006, 02:35 AM
It's a 'Kiwi' helmet oldskool, Swiss made, from the 80's (a computer chose the kiwi name apparently, one of those not offensive, easily recognised kind of names). It wasn't a bad lid at all, I stopped using it because I couldn't get a new visor for it anymore.

I'm using the airbrush because I don't have a full blown spray gun at the moment. ($60 for a thread file the other day is enough on tools this week).
