Hi Tim.

Looks good mate. If you have multiple pics, just put one pic in each post, or each time you add a pic, the previous one will disappear. (there is a way around it, but don't worry unless you're posting heaps.

Now a pic from the front plz

Did you do the 900 conversion yourself Tim?
Are you still using the standard airbox?
This is what they look like when you go a bit further on 'em.

Did you make your new brake and clutch reservoirs mate? or are they aftermarket.

Slain
17-01-2009, 09:30 AM
they are aftermarket ones, i have the same one on my blade. made by a company called obtain.
They are on ebay under rated r shop but he charges a lot for them, i picked mine up for 50 bucks.

I bought mine direct from Obtain accessories in QLD, ordered them on Thursday arvo over the interweb, by that night i had an Email confirming my order and was followed up with a phone call to let me know that they will be in the post on Friday morning so all in all grate customer service.
Now on to the tyre i made it home ok but after getting off the freway it felt like it was going flat but it wasn't it was just the fucked up profile that made it all wobbly at low speed. {note to self no more drunken burnouts. what a fucken mess} :(

Hey timbo is there some retarded ducktail sort of thing on your front guard, a little rise/lip - behind the forks on the rear half of it? My ZXR has it, so gonna ditch it for something else. Bloke I got it off reckons it's a ZX12R guard.

No Slip it's smooth from front to back but i just had a look at my zx6r and it has a ridge right between the fork legs.
Thanks Ice the brakes feel 100% better.

Looks great Timbo - Your build was the one that actually helped me decide not to sell mine and do a build myself.

Did you drill through your original top yoke to bolt the riser clamps on - or is it a non original[?]

Thanks mate i'm glad you like it, as for the top yoke i broke out the die grinder and removed all of the webbing from the underside, then i made some cardboard templates of the void after witch i cut some 10mm and some 3mm aluminum plate so they were nice and fit. Had a mate then tig them in place, drilled a couple of holes and Bobs your uncle. any problems give me a shout i'm happy to help where i can

Mate I'm no engineer and I might be talking a load of old bollocks, so fogive me if I am. Is it possible to melt the aloy and pour it into the yoke to thicken it or would that change the aloy in some way that would weaken the whole thing, or do you use a special aloy. Might be a stupid question but I wont know untill I ask.

Reason I asked is when I was at school, in metal work we would melt broken aloy chair legs with a flame torch and pour the metal into a mould to make handles for screw drivers we had made.

I can't see why not but i would talk to someone like Exben he seems to be the man to ask that sort of things.
I just like to hit things with a hammer, as i work with wood.

Weaselman
22-01-2009, 04:34 PM
what and you think Exben doesnt use a hammer?

TIG welding like you've done is the right way to do it. Apart from the fact the alloy yoke would warp like buggery unless you cool the metal the right way it would be too soft.

If you're worried about strength I had the same done to my set and they stood up to a couple years of wheelie bad abuse and never missed a beat. Most of the load is taken by the bottom triples anyhoo.

I did wonder if it would weaken it because there lots of people weld bits in and it just seemed a like lot of work. Good reply zx12argh I've learned something new today.

A good welder will know how to work the metal without loosing its strength. If you were uber paranoid you could just go and get in heat treated to get the tempering right and then assuming the weld is good it will have ultimate strength. Got to get those theta phases right hey ;)
