Best regards and best wishes Ben! Awesome!! What compression ratio you're gonna set on? And which ecu? My budget is $2-3k, but I nevertheless gonna have separate oil system for my ihi rhf3 vibd turbine and cooling mist water injection, 'cept an IC [}:)].

Comp is 9:1, Ecu is ViPEC V44 these are only new to the market & I haven't used one before but it seems like a good thing RRP is $1800.

The idea was to spend the money where it's going to benefit me the most, & tune-ability is one area I didn't want to skimp.;)

Well, I usually try to keep things as simple as possible, that's what I've found about msii, great tune-ability at fair price as well...
I've got a stupid question eating me for a quite awhile... Can one do without an ecu, using a laptop directly for f.i. managing? The algorythm is quite simple, programming language is the same. and it takes only about 10 sensors to be corresponded[?][?][?] I've asked programmers and motorists, none's answered me exactly, just 'maybes'.
What do you think Ben?

Im the wrong person to ask, but I could imaging strapping a laptop to the bike would probably make it not last long.

Do you mean vibration? But there're so-called military note-books, water and shock resistant, blokes use them on 4x4 and quads. I just see a lot of advantages of using laptop directly:
1. you have to have it anyway for datalogging an ecu, so using laptop directly can save money on an ecu;
2. you can tune and monitor everything in real time;
3. you get an universal super-informative dashboard, with such features as a rear view camera and gps (not sayin'bout watching movies and listening to music:D), but others features as a boost control, a/f ratio, temp, rpm, etc;
4. laptops, I guess, run on more powerful processors...

But of course I don't mean just to strap it to the tank [8D], but to disassemble it to three blocks connected by cables, using an apt lcd and a keyboard from some htc communicator or smth.

That's my way of [bush]engineering: I look at a thing and ask myself and people, can it work in a different way or an application? :D:D:D

And then, how to make it to work in a different way?[?][?][?]

And then, I make it...

Surt,
There is no reason that you couldn't do it up I would be running it off a Linux based system as opposed to windows. I have to be honest though given that it is essentially a set of look up tables it would be easier to load it up into a pic rather than using a laptop persay.

Cheers
Paul

On a side note Ben, Adaptronic is a pretty good piece of kit, I have been using one on my car. Price wise they are very good as well. Check it out at www.adaptronic.com.au

Lookin good mate. i really like the lock-up clutch. if you had a bit more cash in the kitty you could make a clear cover to show off your handy work.

Well after many late nights it's finally ready to go to fools, it's only tuned up to 15psi which makes just on 250rwhp, we were running into fuel delivery issues after this so that will have to do for now.
After fools I'll sort the fueling & wind up the boost.;)

I've still got to sort the ride height & fine tune the shifter but that will have to wait till fools because the driveway & work just aint long enough........

IMHO lappies are too big and use too much power for something like this. Also are a bit fragile.

Some bloke in SA has a TRX / R1 hybrid he calls the TR1X that has a megasquirt sending info to a Nano ITX computer of some kind. Here it is on OCAU MC:

HaHa... oh yeah that neglected thing sitting in the corner, Sold the computer cause I wasn't happy with it, changing the throttle bodies/Injectors for something better, stole the motor for Judge but got new motor off ebay to go in, but basicly lack of time cause 2010 was a C*!#T of a year & business comes before fun. Hopefully 2011 is more prosperous & I find the time to play with my toys... :)
