JESUS! - If its a scam you can contact ebay about rip off postage costs - but all it will mean is you get out of the auction with no penalties - I'm guessing you want the bits. I haven't done this so cant really recommend anyone - but you could try a freight forwarder in the states and get them to send it by sea - will take a fuck load longer but will be cheaper.
Jesus thats expensive... [:O]

It's a shop that I'm buying it from so you'd expect that they would have some sort of credibility...I've emailed him and asked to get a second price for postage, along with dimensions and weight so I can get some estimates from my end. Just bullshit that he thinks he can try and charge that much!

did it say anything about postage costs in the auction?

you may be about to learn an expensive lesson about ebay (or risk getting bad feedback)

its definitely a rip-off!!!

Did you not get a shiiping quote before bidding? I alwyas do without fail and the prices always vary between sellers. This guy should have given you a shipping quote before you bid especially if he knew you were in Aus. Did you contact him?

pappas
03-06-2008, 03:02 PM
Yeah I sent him 3 messages asking for postage, with no reply. I know I shouldn't really have bid on it, but if i can work out a cheaper way of getting it here it will be worth it. No great loss if it doesn't work out. Sellers can't put negative feedback with buyers anymore.

Search for the USPS site and check postage and size limits for yourself, the muffler, mid pipe is the killer, had exhausts sent before for ~120 or so (full yosh system)
Many in the US will not use USPS because you have to go to the postoffice whereas freight companys pickup at your door....

Will do thanks Boost, I've sent him an email and just waiting for a response.....I rang a few shipping companies today and get this....got quoted $1200 through DHL. I hung up!

yeah what a fuckin joke, not to mention the paypal shit. and the fact that the final value fee's have crept up again.
Some anus from hong kong charged my missus $10 postage for something.. that had 3 x 20c stamps or some crap on it, in an envelope.

I had an item I really wanted. but the seller didnt answer 5 messages asking for postage so they can get fucked I'm not bidding.

As for that price pappas, holy FUCK! hopefully you get dimensions/weight details off the seller.

If you got the old parts there, measure them up, maybe find out how much it weighs (or guess)
Then go here..
http://www.theupsstore.com/qcc/qcc.asp
The FROM post code is 55069 I think. see how much it is to send to your door?
(as suggested above) - how much does it estimate?

I cant think of the top of my head but my mate got some crankshafts n shit sent over and he didnt pay nearly as much as that. I dont think it was ups tho and took 2 or so weeks.

failing that, hook up with a mail order trailer tramp, who lives there (cant be hard with a population of about 2000) and get 'er to stay sober till lunchtime and ask the seller herself when he goes to the carwash to wax the merc

I've heard from several people that this has become the most recent eBay scam or custom - sell low to get a buyer and whack on an over-inflated courier charge to make a profit.

And I think paypal takes a fee based on the entire amount (postage included)

ebay/paypal (same thing) are now setting it up so basically they are keeping the double, er, triple dip....hangon ill count em, listing fee, final value fee, paypal fee for withdrawing YOUR money (for anything under $150 last i heard)

not to mention SHIT customer service, and dodgy buyer freindly paypal disputes. basically sellers are being dry fucked with a 50grit wicket.
I now have to tell people to "get fucked" in a positive way hehe

Be careful with Ebay lads. It is a lawfully binding contract, I found out the hard way. Got sued for breaking a contract ( even tho the item description was incorrect ) and ended up in court, and lost. $1500 dollars later. I dont buy anything that I cant go and inspect first. Pro's outweigh the cons tho....

I've only just got the weight and dimensions off him and I got a quote online off USPS for $104. I've emailed him the quote and requested he send the exhaust at that price. The parcel size was under their maximum!

Definatley a scam going on here, I bought a full Kerker system on ebay from Ontrio Canada in April and was charged $130 USD to get it to New Zealand via Canadian Post, also bought a Yoshi 2:1 at the same time and was charged $102 USD for Priority Mail International shipping from L.A.- he's pulling himself with this one, as both boxes were the same size and they both came through the postal service.

pappas
13-06-2008, 10:50 AM
I've emailed USPS about the size of the parcel and they said that I would have to try and split the parcel in two smaller parcels under their size restrictions (I fucked up the package was over size). I've asked the seller if he can do this. The seller has stated 38x15x12 inches or 965x381x305mm and 22lb's (10kg). Does this sound about right?
USPS size restrictions are length plus girth is to be under 79", My parcel is at 92"......

Hopefully this guy does the right thing by me and puts it into 2 parcels.

Postage cost from the US and Canada suck. Their system seems to be all up the shit asa they seem to be the most expensive countries to get anything shipped from.
