Well, decided to tidy up the bike a bit so started stripping it down. In 2 days my housemate and I have stripped it to bits in the shed.

Plan is to blast and paint the frame,
send bodywork off for spray,
new h'light
new bar-end mirrors from the states
tidy up the wiring,
new clutch cable and head gasket
service (plugs, filters and all fluids)

... and hopefully put it back together within the next couple of weeks and get it to start up again....

Going to paint the frame in a gloss black, anyone know what paint to look for? Something strong and chip-resistant

Bear

2 pack enamel. Paint + hardener. Get some reducer as well, to thin the mixture if need be, for spraying.

Sweet, black painted frame was always on my to do list, but I kept riding it after I got it on the road!
You going black on the bodywork too?

wackyrider
30-05-2008, 09:26 AM
Yeah, thinking of black bodywork with a white or silver stripe (running front to back)on the left hand side.

PS streets, what the f**k is up with the wiring loom??? The back end has wires going nowhere and a confusion of wires taped up together!!! On my todo list is to sort all that out while its apart.

Also need a cheap alternative for more power????

Any ideas??

Hope you remember where all those bits go :D

Had to run a relay back there to make the headlight run on the park position. There isnt notmally a front park light on the GPZ so I had to wire the relay off the back. It was just to keep the roaworthy inspector happy when you bought it. You can just ditch all that and unhook it from the rear brake circuit.

wackyrider
30-05-2008, 06:19 PM
Was that the yellow wire runnong front to back?

Bloody lovely m8 , whats the colour of the wheels going to be, and are you planning on doing the motor aswell? I think that would be a nice touch, looks as though you have already got a handle on it .

wackyrider
14-06-2008, 03:44 PM
Well, the motor is staying as is. Jus a good scrubbing with degreaser and a full service.

As for the wheels and footpeg brackets, they're going to be a metalic bronze, got the paint at home and it looks like liquid sex mate.

Still looking for a h'light at the moment.

Also going to try running a bronze stripe from front to rear of the bike, off centre on the left.

When the bike is complete I'll need to think of a name though!!!

Any ideas would be more than welcome

Finished painting the wheels and frame, but I'm just going to leave them hang at work for a few days to dry out totally before getting them home.

Been a SLOW week for the bike. Done fuck all

My housemate and I hit a centre strip on the weekend in his car and cracked the sump on his car. Which means that we were out of transport and had to get it sorted asap.

After a late night in the shed on monday, we had the sump removed and took it to work to get it welded. Managed to get the car back together since but had no time for the bike.

Working O/T on sat, but hope to be able to get the tyres fitted to the rims, cos can't do much till they're on. Plus working sunday at my part-time as well.....

Been off the net for a while, but the bike is progressing anyways.

Got the tyres fitted, so got a rolling chassis a few days ago. Also did the rocker cover gasket.

So then I was really keen to try a quick mock-up to get a preview of the finished product. Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!

Cheers for all the feedback guys. [:I]

Started the engine a couple of days ago. Sounds mean as hell with no muffler on :D:D

Also got the brakes sorted.

All that's left is the wiring at the back and should be ready for the street.

Will do a few test runs in the local area to make sure all is well. Don't want something to come loose, like a swinging arm.......... [xx(][xx(][xx(]

Wow thats really coming together nicely.

I never cease to be amazed at the sheer fucken talent of the people on this site. There should be some sort of prize for the collective genius of the people we get there. There is no doubt fighters have made some weird crossover between mechanics and art.

And now I started sounding gay and weird Im gonna go have another toke.

Top job wacky

wackyrider
18-07-2008, 04:41 PM
Well, bike all together.... or it was 2 days ago.

Sorted out the wiring and put all the bodywork on, turned the ignition and........

battery's gone flat!!! F**K. :(:( While I was sorting out the wiring, drained the battery.
No worries, decided to give it a push start, but it started running rough like hell. Tried a few times wondering if it could be some crap in the fuel, but to no avail. [xx(]

Let it be for the night and yesterdayt after work took the tank off agin to have a look. (Which means I had to take off the undertail and rear cowl to get to the tank (Bloody streetfighters!!!! hehehe[:o)]).

Realised that a fuel line had gotten loose when we were fitting the tank, so nicked a hose clamp from my housemates car and put it all back together.

Got a set off jump leads and wired them up to an old battery in the shed and....

She fired straight up my good girl.

All is left now is to go home and put the tail back on. :D

Oh yeah, and some someone on the site to send me my new h/light!!! :D:D
