I have seen a lot of steering dampers mounted on the side of bikes and think it looks trick. Is this as effective as having it near the stem and if you do this do you still have to use the bike specific damper or can you just use one off another bike on say for instance my Z1000?
Cheers boys.

The side mount ones have a longer available travel than the steering head mounted ones.

JackTar use a Sprint 140mm damper with whatever size fork clamp you need. (Stu sells them)
You may need to weld a bung on the frame to hold the back ends tho( or use an 8mm nutsert).

Hi Tony waiting to see what happens with my brothers bike because he has a side mount Toby adjustable damper,
that wasn't fitted when he came off so if your interested i will let you know when i do.
grow some fuckin muscles, steering dampers are like fairings and clip-ons,only poofters have em.Or just tighten your steering head about 9 turns.
If you keep the fuckin throttle pegged tank slap will steady itself.Back it off and you'll highside in spectacular fashion.

Cheers Paul and thank you Davo as well as usual you are a font of knowledge and your posts are a pleasure to read good Sir :D
How was everyones ANZAC day by the way? I was in the Royal Guard at the war memorial and once that was done I tried as hard as I could to drown myself in Bourbon then screamed at my back lawn for about 20 minutes.
Tank slap isn't my concern.
It's being able to take a hand of the bars to flip my lid, turn on comms, flip the bird to a driver, whatever, and ride through some of Shitney's many pot-holes while staying in control. [xx(]
a steering damper wont save you if your a commuter, your just another statistic if you ride in traffic. and i dont know what comms are,let alone how to turn them on.But thats ok coz i'm from the internet and i can just Goggle it.
