View Full Version : Carb Question for 89 gsxr750

So! I've decided to pull the carbies off the bike and give them a good clean. I have just checked the position of the pilot scew and it is 4 turns out. The specs as per the UK model in the manual tell me that it should be 1.5 turns back. Am I reading this correctly? By back my understanding is that the pilot screw should be all the way in (finger tight) then turned back 1.5 times?

Would the australian spec bikes have different settings?

Also does anyone know where to get Carb cleaner that you soak the carbies in? That doesn't affect plasctics and rubber?

Devo, I just spoke with Repco and he had never heard of the stuff. Only got the aerosol cans.

So your saying that the Australian specs are 4 turns out?

no the aussie specs are around the same 1 and a 1/4 - 1 and a 1/2 and the brake cleaner I was certain Repco sold otherwise give a crab and injector service shop a call I think they can sonically clean them ;) but don't know whether you have to pull them apart though [B)] just make sure you balance them when you put them back in ok.

Cheers mate, I'll keep looking for the right stuff as I spoke to a carb place and they said I'd have to take the carbs apart as their chemicals will stuff the rubber and plastics.

So brake cleaner and carb cleaner are the same? I didn't ask Repco for Brake cleaner, might call them back.

Went to order o-rings for the floats and they wanted $4 each O-ring!
Are they fucking kidding themselves?

Brake cleaner and compressed air is the best way to clean carbs. You have to take them fully apart though.

I often find though that carb cleaner doesn't work tha well , ain't nuttin worse than sevicing them and they still look dirty even after you try and clean em.
And as for the o-rings they are fuel resistant thus the price.

Are these cv/flatslide carbies ?? If so I have loadsa spares inc. 4 rebuild kits. ;)

I was lucky...this came with the house.(we had one already)
Spray the degreaser on...leave for while and then super hot wash.:D

Ok, I got fuel resistant O- rings from a bearing mob for a grand total of $2! For all of them....I used nulon Throttle body and Carby cleaner to clean the carbs and the jets being careful not to spray any of the plastic bits, I also changed the screws on the float bowls and vacuum caps to cap head stainless bolt....looks pretty clean and the new screws are a heap easier to take off! I'll post some photo's as soon as I resize them.
