Picked up my K6 GSXR1000 on Saturday with visions of biulding a nice street fighter over the coming months, being a short arse the first thing I'll be doing is lowing it an 1" or 2", got some links of fleabay, but was just wondering about the installation, has the rear shock got any preload that I need to be aware of, once the weight is off the tail section will things simply slip out or do we need to close the shock or anything. New to this so expect plenty of posts in the future months.

Just take the weight off the rear suspension, i put a car jack under the exhaust, (carefully ) so i can raise or lower the bike to suit refitting the bolts.

How are you supporting the bike? paddock stands? A centre stand is better for this sort of work. But basically unbolt the shock at the bottom, where it joins the dog bones, replace dog bones, bolt up shock. But you will need help to position the shock and dog bones when removing/installing the lower shock mount bolt.

A small $50 trolley jack is a good idea for supporting the front or rear of the bike when working on the suspension and the like.

These are the ones you want, simply wind them up or down.

Send me $50+ postage and you can have mine, found it simpler to use multi hole as i'm after repeatability .
