Looks like you'll have plenty of company Deano, not many from Vic are going. This means I'll have to misbehave even more than usual just to make up for lack of numbers.

Does anyone know if these coolers would be suitable for an 1100 oil cooled engine (1990)?

Thanks

they sure are Tiger, but you'll need to make the above bracket to suit.

no worries.

Got one of these coolers delivered. Just hoping to find out if they bolt straight up before I pull things apart. Noticed someone mentioned that they had lines made up for theirs, any idea on how much that costs? Thanks

Around $200-$300. Main cost is in ya fittings for it. Oh happy days.

Well, everyone has answered already, but yea, it was Supercharger Mark who got one first. He's had it for a good while now and ridden loads. No problems at all - even when it's inverted:

Anyone know any good places in Adelaide to get lines made up? Also the lines on my bike have a short braided section (100mm) going to the cooler then metal lines that run down the frame into the same braided line and fittings to the motor.

Is it better to get one line from motor to cooler made or can I just get the shorter length made to order from the metal line with one set of fittings to the cooler?

just get the whole lot made. junk the steel bit

Looking at the pic of the bike above it would seem that the cooler has been mounted with the fittings facing downwards. The factory cooler has the fittings at the top.

Is there any right/wrong way to mount it or could the one in the pic have been mounted that way for clearance issues?

We turned it upside down to make it tidier mate. The right way up means the hoses are on full display. On this one the lines are actually steel tubes bent into shape which means you see nothing. The only thing to keep in mind when you turn it up the other way is that the oil will drain from the cooler when the bike is turned off as opposed to it sitting in the cooler when it is the right way up. This means that you need to measure out how much oil the cooler takes and then add that to the engine oil once the oil window shows full normally.

would it drain?

if the inlet and outlet are both below the oil level were they enter the sump it should be impossible for air to get into the cooler as both the inlet and outlet are filled with oil.

i would say best bet would be to take the cooler off with hoses connected (flexable hoses of coarse) and lay the cooler down in front of the motor with the inlet and outlet as the high points. start the bike let it run for a bit to bleed the air out and then invert the cooler and put in position and it should remain full of oil.

just my thourght

...and as always a good thought mate. What you say is probably true - we had a long conversation about it when we did it and both Ben and Chris said the same thing about how they ran theirs. Mine's been running like it for 2 years without any dramas but your suggestion is good mate and would be worth it for anyone setting up new.

what about the car transmission oil coolers in super cheap auto for 100 bucks? are they the same deal?

Gix11

Are they 19 rows and same dimensions? If so I guess they are the same deal. Mine is a Setrab unit I bought off one of the guys on the forum (Like this:http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/2056/Setrab_Oil_Coolers2) and you can see it's universal - car/bike.
