Yeah i thought about the earlier guard FMC but the front light unit is quite angular looking and i think it needs an angular guard to suit. Just bought a 955i front guard. Gotta love ebay. $150 delivered including the mounting clamps and bolts! Not to bad considering the guard doesnt have a mark on it.

I am thinking the next thing will be a 17 inch front wheel. The early to mid 90's cbr600 had a wheel that matches the blades in a 17. I assume the rotors etc. would be a straight swap?

not sure which one works but i'm sure one of the
lads can help you on this one.
955i guard should look the job.
Hi NLT,
Can you send the ebay link from where you got the guard. I am still chasing a few bits for my daytona.

Thanks damo, thats exactly what i needed in regards to the wheels. I will be looking around for a cbr600 as i like the look of the six spokes. Horses for courses. The Duc guard looks shit hot. Looks like some sweat and tears in polishing that frame.

02-09-2006, 03:01 PM
Polishing? When did you polish the frame Damo? I was just about to day that it'd look quite good if you polished it up a bit......
Hahahaha!! TIC mate...! (..and I'm dying to see that afterburner in full operation!)

Ah Stu rumore has it you may have a viffer 800 rear wheel in the garage
any truth to it???????
i know someone who wants one,,, me any chance?

The blade got run and jetted on the dyno today. Also had a yoshi 2degree ignition advancer fitted. 119 rwhp. Not too bad for a motor with 75000km's on the clock and stock headers. More importantly the midrange and throttle response is alot better.
The chain and sprockets are pretty close to shagged as well so it would probably be around an even 120 with a new set.

Bit of progress. New rear indicators arrived so it was out with the dremel and hacked off a large chunk of the undertail. Made a massive difference being able to see the rear tyre properly. Best i could do without buying an undertail.

My guard from ebay arrived. Gotta be painted obviously but it looks shitloads better i think.
I lowered the instruments and it allowed me to drop the front fairing right down onto the bottom clamp. Looks nice and low on the front now.

Found out whats wrong with shifting into second as well. Its the shift rod that runs right through the gearbox. Only $50 from honda new! I was pleasantly surprised. Going to install a factory pro shift kit at the same time and it should be a new box. I had horrifying thoughts of having to get the engine removed and splitting the cases.

Got stage 1 on the blade finished. USD front end, single sider and new subframe/tail unit to be done in the future but its tidy enough for now. I have a tail riser coming from Stu(qwickdraw), which should give it a tougher stance.
I am getting Ben(exben) to do me an underslung exhaust next, once i can track down some stainless headers at the right price.
:A NOTE FOR ALL THE NEWER MEMBERS: all the bits on the bike came from Stu(austreetfighter) and Ben(extreme creations), so lets give them some support fellas.

Looks bloody tops mate! You've done a very good job considering that less than a year ago you wrote your first post in here as a total noob to 'fighters not knowing how to go about it.
A credit to you and all your hard work - well done.
It just goes to show that a bit of planning, some 'smarts', and some assistance from the right people (US!) all go a long way. Let this be a lesson to all those out there who're too scared to start a project because they're not sure what to do - just dive in!
Nath - I hope to get us to Newie for a ride with ya before the 'Blade (mine - not yours!) gets taken off the road. See ya then.

Ha the million $ question. I would like to do a zx12r next but i have a new bub arriving this month so the blade will do for the forseeable future as cash is tight . I want to fit the tail riser and get ben to do the underslung exhaust and that will be it for a while(maybe ;) !)

Nothing major - just a bit of minor engine work to freshen it up....:D (and apparently fit some air horns[:o)])
I keep thinking that I've decided what's coming up next, but then just when I'm sure I've made up my mind some prick keeps whispering in my ear with alternatives[}:)][}:)].
Regardless of which way I end up going, this next one will be about a year's worth of work[:0]

Thanks Huey. It came up ok for my first try at a fighter. Its just a basic build as i have not done any structural work, like a subframe change or front end conversion. It has been a great starting project however, and i have learnt alot. The most important thing being exactly what i want in a fighter.
Its time to move on now though. After dropping in on Exben and stopping the poor guy working for hours while i nattered on and picked his brain(and stared in awe at JUDGE) , i realised i should let the blade go and get hold of a zx12.
This next one will be much more interesting!!

Dash looks the goods. Lights up a nice blue colour. Still have to mount the sensor and magnet which will be the interesting part as they have to be 8mm apart.
Hey Nath where did you end up putting the magnets for the speedo sensor ? Could you have used the existing pick ups of the front sprocket? I am having a torrid time with these F@*king things [V]
I have an R6 speedo unit for mine but I think that its going to be to much trouble!

I got the pods from the states for a fraction of the cost of the Aus importer. Cant remember exactly who it was but i emailed a guy selling K and N on ebay gave him the part number and he gave me a price and sent them over. The part number is RU-2992. Keep in mind they dont make a pod specifically for the blade and its a universal filter. They fit on fine but i had to do some minor work with a dremel on the flanges to get them to fit perfectly. They sound awesome.
I mounted the sensor on the fork pinch bolt and mounted the magnet on the disc carrier. Just keep in mind they are very sensitive to sensor position. You will have to experiment with the positioning. Ben only got mine working properly at the Fools. Its perfect now though(cheers mate).
