Got the 3853 dash unit.
I tried both wiring methods.Hard wired to the pulse wire to a coil, and wrapping the yellow around a plug lead...no good....very erratic reading..
Am I right the tacho feed needs a resistor ? If so What rating ? :(

1K ohm

Mine was working perfectly but since I put the bike back together after painting the tacho is the only thing that no longer works!

They reccomend using a 1 mega ohm resistor.
Did you sort it Sharky ?

Have you double checked your wiring?

How erratic are we talking? MIne fluctuates a bit but I was just assuming it was due to the carbs not being perfectly synched.

I'd call a fluctuation of more than one bar on the graph erratic.

Since I removed the loom pretty much intact I have only checked from the coil to the resistor. Also, considering it went from working fine to not at all I could only assume I screwed something up somewhere. :)

Not yet Ben....gotta find a nice friendly shop that could supply a resistor.;)[:X];)[:X]

Fixed the tacho.:D
The feed needs to be taken from one of the pulse wires going to the coil and the resistor wired in. Wrapping the wire around the plug lead, even with the resistor, did not work.
