hi all, been really missing post whoring on asf, but due to several reasons, hadnt been able to.
reason 1 - no idea why but circa 2017 i wasnt allowed to post on here, some anti jotun conspiracy;
reason 2 - my 2 sheds were destroyed and plundered by alliens and mutants, therefore instead of finishing my projects i had to repair my cars;
reason 3 - pics from my threads were hosted on fucka bucket and sometimes one could see them, sometimes couldnt. i cant log in on to my own account in the shit bin. hopefully im gunna find a way of uploading pics directly from my lappy.
well back to the new ride.
last summer i got myself a country house and lot, about 90 km from my home. a traffic to the place is aweful, especially on weekends, so my idea was to build a super light folding motor cycle that predend to be a push bike. so that i'd take most of the way by the public transport (the subway and railroad) and last 10 km by the bike. i could probably ride by a pushie, but on the other hand, fuck pedalling with a heavy load, being tired or in the summer heat etc
so i bought the folding fat bike with 26" wheels and both suspensions hoping to motorize it with a 100cc 2 stroke chinese engine. from the beginning i decided to remove pedals but keep the gears

those 26"x4" were fucking huge, coulda given me probs with gearing, so i decided to get smaller wheels, firstly tried 24", then 20". i'd take 22" but they arent available. 24" and 20" are pretty rare too, so after a month of searching i had to buy the whole kids fat with 20" wheels

the complete bike was disassembled and the 100cc engine kit was bought and they met together. cant say i was happy, the reality is harsher than ideas, but we must fight the reality to approach ideals ha ha

the huge sprocket looked fugly and the frame was no go either so i had to admit my fuck up, there'll be no easy ride, i'll have not to modify the bike, but to build one from scratch

At the risk of sounding like a greenie, which I’m definitely not, have you considered electric propulsion for your pushie? No idea if there are kits available, but you’re smarter than the average bear and could whip something up I’m sure!

thanks nudie, more than 5 ys indeed. yup i even almost bought an electric bike a year ago, but changed my mind. they are to slow, short ranged, and not reliable battery wise. any kits are available on the web these days, but they are pricey for what i need - up to 100 km/h top speed

forgot to mention, the crank unit of the fat bike is to wide cos of wide tyre, so if i used the stock frame, i'd have to settle engine to the left side too far. another idea was to set 2 engines in row, but thats an overkill even for a russian bear. i also measured the rake of the bike, its 16 deg (!) compared to a sports bike's 23-26, i'd love to stick to 26 for better stability. so, i'd have to cut off and change the neck, the crank unit, the swinger and shock moounts, what would left of the frame? therefore i decided, like it was said, to build a new frame. ive had 40*40*2 squre tube lying around, after researching the stock frame i judged itd do a treat.

the sprocket from the kit weights about a kilo, so i bought an ally one off a ktm 50. the steel one will be used as a frying pan stand. made the main drive sprocket hub from a steel pedal rod, and the tranny sprocket hub from an ally pedal rod

btw, composing a motorized pushie's frame is more difficult than a motorcycles one. especially a folding one. you must find where to place the engine, main drive, swinger mounts, set necessary angles and after all the whole bike must be foldin in the middle exactly.

btw the stock forks looked good, no play unlike others, cept its stem. which was cut off and a new one was fabbed and pressed in after some magick chantings and dances. its made to accept 'normal' roll bearing off a pit bike, so in theory you can install pit bike forks instead

changed the frame design concerning the fuel tank, made the hinge, pressed into the swinger ball bearings and spacers, changed the lower tube angle, began to re design the swinger and rear susp, gunna copy honda unit prolink. the swingers a tad wry btw

changed the head bolts for studs and tall nuts, the engines gunna be hung by the head with the nuts

fucked up with the forks stem, ordered a longer one, already machined just waits for zinc coatin, so soon well gunna have a rolling chassiss!

installed the front end and checked up hmm the foldability correctness. it'll be correct if the swingers mounts length is 40mm, as planned, the wheelbases confirmed once again and equals 1420mm. the future seat height is about 750mm

looking a tad longer than i'd like, but cant help it given the project demands and specialties - folding in halves, and due to the 'narrow' offset of the motor sprocket, the distance between sprockets hub and swinger axle cant be shorter

also its become obvious that better off filling the gap between the frame and swinger with placing shock and linkage there, not under the swinger as i planned before.

finished fabbing engine mounts both lower and upper ones, twas hell of a job, nuff to say that i didnt use my frame jig and had to weld on my serving/bedroom/whatever table cos the frame and engine were too narrow to be fixed on the jig

just covered cups, phones, remotes ant other shit with cardboard. tho the tables homemade and air brushed with my fav mat black epoxy paint which doesnt burn and holds melted metal blobs.
now the engine in the frames half resembles a chain saw without guide bar. btw, initially i planned just to install my chainsaw motor on a fat bike, but later decided to buy the motor kit, mainly coz of much higher revs and following gearin problems. hopefully the bike engine as reliable as chainsaw's

hey hey im back with updates
as usual, the ride was interrupted by MORE IMPORTANT THINGS, now it was my belongings' relocation to the country house, had to fab a powerful rear bumper for my truck and a ramp fixing to it, strong enough to withstand a 2t van that was also one of my unfinished projects (turboing one and other upgrades), then i was moving all the stuff there, then had begun building a new huge garage, but out of sudden the autumn has come with rains and frosts and no indian summer; so i thought why not to switch on to the folding motorcycle project

forgot to shoot the process of fabbing the rear susp linkage, but it was made for 2 days and then i began to design the 'right' resonator and its a total headache. made necessary calculations and soon it will be finished. had to assemble the whole bike to get the idea, how the zorst should be directed etc. and when the 12 day long rain had finished at long last, i decided not to fight with temptation to take the bike out, before disassembling it for tidying up and painting

as you can see, its already got the reed valve, the balanced tuned up zorst is next (i did buy a banana zorst from china, but its a fucking joke, made against all formula), then i might mess with the engine to squeeze out as many horsies as possible. and i probably gonna need the seat.

yup Bob, its a fun project but im serious on it from the beginning, its not like putting an engine on a stock pushie, it must answer all technical demands like being compact and light, folding in halves, and when folded, anything mustn't hit each other, the zorst must be pretty big according to the calculations and by that compact again, not protruding forth, even the fuel petcock gave me many hours of brooding, as it supposed to be in the lowest place of the upper tube/tank, just where the carbie s already hung

long time no updates, just in the awe of posting too many pics. but the longer delay, the more pics to upload, so let us proceed...
occasionally bought this 203 mm brake disc, but it didnt fit onto the stocky break disc hub, its i.d. is smaller than hubs thread! i.d. 34mm v m35x1. firstly i put it away, but a few mos later i figured out how to fit it. i ordered a fatter hub so that the disc hanged in the air being centered separately on a special centering cylinder with m35x1 tread cut, and 2 threads were cut off to make 34mm diameter which centered the disc. then i drilled tapped the hub, and now the front brake disc is bigger than [it was] on my ole good civic [it was 200mm non vent and i converted it for the rear hubs, and fitted 260mm vented on the front]

fitted normal 2 yoke forks, they are made of ally and magnesium therefore are even much lighter, then the 1st steel ones. i wouldnt feel confident with one yoke forks. naturally, have to fab new stem and nuts. the frame and swinger with links were powder coated

had to re install old forks while fabbing a much longer stem nut whichs gunna serve also as bars mount. firsty i intended to use 2 motorcycles risers, but in that case the bars would have been too close to me, causing not comfy riding position.
also fabbed the seat subby, the seat went back further than expected. i also wanted to fab a dirt bike style seat, but due to the lack of time, forsook it for a while. fabbing the central stand is another story, much unexpected pain in arse, but i considered as a must. not finished in the photo.

been to busy to ride during the summer, but before going home, decided to ride out one for the road. like i said its a fun to ride, nice riding position, intuitive access to controls, just a usual bike, just keep squeezing the clutch lever when braking. brakes are good too, the front one is a tad sluggish but predictable, the rear one can be easily blocked
