So, as some of you may know I decided to buy Hoonda a few months ago. I bought it off the guy who got it off Boxer, so it looked a bit different by the time it made it into my hands.

When I got the bike it wasn't running and it sat there for a couple of months. Fast forward and managed to get it to a mates house who is a mechanic and we started stripping down and diagnosing. (Bike would turn over but not fire up, sometimes it would back fire). Pulled the rocker cover off to check all was good and on re-assembly, piece by piece, we realised that the firing order had been connected up wrong. Swapped the leads round correctly and boom, what do you know she fired up.

Even though she started she is still wetting plugs on startup and not running well

Discovered that a plug thread was stripped so bike sat for a couple of months. Finally got back to it and took the bike back to my mate where we pulled the motor out and stripped the head off to see what we're gonna do

While we had the motor out decided to have a look at the cylinders and 2 of the bores have some decent wear in them.

Discussed different options on what to do for the damaged plug thread and in the end decided to just get another head, thank you Boxer again - he just happened to have one lying around

I'm surprised the first thing you did wasn't hitting it with a rattle can of Aussie Export flat black!

Fuck the paint, everyone seems to be hung up on it.

I'm focusing on the engine, a Big bore, turbocharged bike and everyone is focusing on paint....

Paint being bothering so many people, I think I'll leave it, lol

Ha. More paint issues.

Mate, this is a complete engine rebuild, she will be good as new. This thing will fly!

Yeah, that wasn't the original plan... Ah well, big bore it is

I'd draw dicks all over it just to piss people off even more about the paint... Paint is the last thing you should think about or even give a shit about.

Are you changing the compression? If you are lowering it don't go too much cause it'll be a dog un til it gets boooooooost.
How many boosts does it/will it run? all of them?

Doing what you are, it is a lot better than redoing the paint work. Would be alot of fun when your done!!! ;)

Need time to head back there to continue working on it. Going to be at a standstill for a couple of weeks, Off to Sydney for work tomorrow for a few days, then heading away camping for the weekend, and on the Monday travelling to Mumbai, India for a week for work.

Oh yeah, on top of that Sarah had a small high side on the R1 and the insurance company decided to write it off for her without consulting her. So we bought it back off and have a repairable write off (The sub-frame alone was worth buying it back) that I need to fix up and get re-registered.

Bought a rolling chassis in Adelaide with some parts we'll use to fix the R1 and a front end possibly for the CB (in time). Just working on getting that shipped up soon hopefully.

Shed is starting to look a bit messy

Just trying to also finalise on a 6m X 7.6m shed (garage) to be put in near the house too. That will be a 'clean' garage and will move a couple of bikes down to there possibly, whereas the top shed is a working shed. Getting it set up slowly, unfortunately seem to keep running out of time, lol

Is Sarah ok?

Yeah she's all good. Just briused her arm slightly. Happened close to home on brand new tyres. Bike got away from her before she new it. The R1 has a bit more power than her daily GSXR600

Just need to sort out the R1 now

Gix11

The old "new-tyre" routine. Glad she's ok. Ha - Another project for you, just in case you didn't have enough.

Will it weather well with no protective coating? Admittedly; it looks great without anything on it.

Hydroblasting weathers fantasticly, nothing like normal
raw aluminum

LKC73

I'd paint it, as soon as you get water on hot alloy it will mark and look like crap.
Great base to start with though.

Anyone know what the story was with why they swapped out the FCR carbs for fuel injection on the original build?

Boxer and Ben would know, but they spend more time on Facebook now. Try the ASF Facebook group and you may get the answer.

Engine is all there waiting to be put back together. Just need the time, Had a kid just over 2 months ago and have been finishing off things around the house, so will hopefully get back to it very soon. Just waiting on my mate at whose garage it is to let me know when he has time in between other customers bikes.
