I am about to put a gsxr 1000k4 front end onto my SV1000 and was wondering or open to sugestions on what to do in regards to mounting the standard headlight to the gixer forks, is there a cheap option available? I dont want to fork out ( sorry about the pun )$200 or more. cheers.

yep,

get yourself a few strips of 1.2mm ally about 25mm wide,
drill a hole centred about 30mm from one end

then do another hole at about
d = (3.14*Dia) + (2x20)

dia= diameter of fork leg in mm

hole size depends on bolts used
i did 8.5mm for M8 bolts

so u get some flat steel with a similar sized hole in em (i bought mine from bunning, $1.40 each)
bend the ally around enuff by hand to start the bolt and sandwiche the 1.2ally between the flats

then get some rubber strip from somewhere (my strip cost me a buck from clarke rubber)

gimme a minute i shall post pics

so if u did 4 of these up u should be able to mount up your SV light no-wuckers with the stock ally bracket bit

oh, im assuming you have a naked SVthou yeah?

I'm interested in some pics too

As long as they're not gross

yep,the old Pye-R-squared theory fimp... 3.14xDia+2x20
anyone here know how to calculate the radius of a bend???

No,
but I can erect a perpendicular ;)

pi????? what happpened to pliers and 20 guage fencing wire/zip ties. get the fork bend the shit round it and then you know what fits, make a jig. Bending alloy is fucked up tho, try bending something bendable first and then make a jig. Or do the math. I hate math tho.

Necessity is a bitch and the mother in law of invention.

alrighty, this is for a set of gsxr1000k2 forks
i used the little plates that were 32wide by 3mm thick

so my length was
d= pi*50 +32
= 189

using 25mm x 1.2mm aluminium strip as below

then drilled the holes out to the 8mm
and did a little pre-bend before i got serious

just wrap it around a tin of degreaser,(or a tub of personal lube)problem solved.

so then it went

bolt head, washer, plate, bracket, bracket, plate, washer, nut
and i just cranked it up

i dunno about exact bending radii, but the little plates i used tended to pull the ally around and perhaps it thins it a little
or perhaps cos the holes in the plates were about 10mm so i guess the plates moved out of the way a little?

u get a little radius anyways

ok, here is where i should've slowed down a little

the rubber i used was about 2mm thick, so perhaps i should have put it around the fork i was using to bend the ally (or at least added a few mm of electrical tape to build up the diameter to about 52mm or so)
the rubber compresses a bit, so that way u can crank down the bolts and get a really firm grip on the fork leg
it should save u from scratchs on the anodized legs and also save the bulbs from some vibes ;)

oh, and i 5minute araldited the rubber too so it wouldnt creep out from under the clamp
here it is all drying

i took this opportunity to trim off the excess ally with my dremel [8D]

i gave it a quick buff and bolted it on,
i have the 3mm bracket in there for shits and giggles

with this method though the gap between the 2 bracket plates (which is only there cos its effectively a 50mm clamp on a now 54mm fork leg once u add the rubber thickness) would fit the 5mm ally SV headlight bracket pretty much perfectly

u could use your blinker stalks to hold the whole thing together if they were chunky enough
dont think i trust mine though so i will put them on the plate going to the light itself

what u think? [B)]

hurry up and finish building it ya girl, its only been about 2 years since we saw the 1st foto and all you've done is remove the engine and bend 1 piece of alloy.those forx are severely bent mate.great for right handers if ya racing an anti-clockwise circuit

Cheers mate, you have given me a few ideas, I might use an old conflakes box as a template , all this talk of ridiusisis does my head in . thanks.
